Community Mediation Centers from across Tennessee came together to strengthen our collective impact for the third year in a row! We took a big step forward by crafting a shared mission statement to unify our work and set priorities over for the next 1-3 years. We shared ideas, chips and salsa, and a hike to Bee Rock to see the lovely Tennessee hills. It was wonderful to spend intentional, collaborative time together! We’re grateful for the dedication of everyone involved and excited for what’s ahead!

Happy Mediation Monday! Community mediation provides an otherwise inaccessible service to teenage parents, allowing families like this to be set up for long term success. Two minor parents met, along with their guardians, to discuss a temporary parenting plan that allowed for the flexibility of their school and extracurricular schedules. They mediated holidays beautifully and agreed to meet again to create a permanent plan. The flexible of a parenting plan allowed these two young parents to build trust with each other. ??

?Join us in celebrating Phillip Byron Jones, Partner at Evans, Jones & Reynolds, P.C., as he joins our board of directors! ? Get to know Phillip: Phillip has been licensed to practice law for 34 years, handling complex business litigation with an emphasis on contract disputes, corporate disputes, Commercial Construction project disputes and aviation law. He has litigated throughout the state courts of Tennessee and in the Federal Courts in the Western, Middle and Eastern districts of Tennessee, as well as in the Federal courts in New York City, Tampa, Baltimore, and Cleveland. Phillip grew up in a small farming community in Kentucky and is married with 5 adult children. He loves to travel, having visited 13 different countries, and is licensed as both a commercial pilot and a scuba diver. He also wrote the screenplay and was a Co-Executive Producer for the Documentary film: "Shine Service". "I have been a litigation lawyer for nearly 35 years. Many times, the winner takes all. Oftentimes, both sides leave feeling unfulfilled. Mediation allows people to control their own outcome. When people can set aside pain and ego, many times a resolution can be crafted through mediation. NCRC’s mission fits squarely within this needed spot in society."

?We're proud to share that Overton Thompson, counsel at Bass, Berry & Sims, is joining our board!? Get to know Overton: With more than 35 years of complex business litigation experience, Overton Thompson has represented a multitude of clients in bet-the-company matters where hundreds of millions, and sometimes billions, of dollars have been in dispute. Of note, he was lead counsel for Genesco Inc. in the largest case ever tried in Tennessee involving the breach of a $1.5 billion merger agreement. Overton guides his clients through analysis, strategy, negotiations or litigation to obtain favorable results in important matters. He has provided counsel for national clients of all sizes on a range of complex litigation, business, securities and corporate matters. "Mediation is important to me because it can save parties an enormous amount of time and expense in resolving their dispute. In some cases it can also help preserve a relationship. It also helps preserve judicial resources which are often scarce."
