?? Honoring a Champion for Brain Injury Awareness ?? The UAMS IDHI Brain Injury Program was honored to take part in two incredible events recently, each dedicated to raising awareness and fostering community support for individuals affected by brain injuries. On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Benton River Center was alive with energy as approximately 140 people gathered for the 2025 Brain Injury Awareness Walk, presented by NeuroRestorative Timber Ridge. Kicking off at 9:30 a.m., the event was more than just a walk—it was a powerful display of resilience, connection, and change-making. Then, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, history was made as the Brain Injury Association of Arkansas (BIAAR) hosted the first-ever Brain Injury Awareness Day at the Arkansas State Capitol. Leading the charge was Laura Dina, BIAAR President and a TBI survivor herself, who spearheaded this groundbreaking event with passion and determination. Way to go UAMS IDHI Brain Injury Program! These two events were more than just gatherings - they represent vital work in the State of Arkansas. Thank you for all you do! ?? Honoring a Champion for Brain Injury Awareness ?? MINDSOURCE Brain Injury Network is commemorating Brain Injury Month 2025 through various initiatives. They launched a new outreach campaign aimed at raising awareness about the wide-ranging effects of brain injuries on life. Their main graphic emphasizes the message, “If you care about ______, you care about brain injuries.” Additionally, they have been sharing related content on their social media platforms that provides statistics on brain injuries and highlights local and national resources that offer support. MINDSOURCE also took part in Colorado's 3rd Annual Disability Rights Advocacy Day. This event serves as a platform for individuals with disabilities from across the state to connect with lawmakers and raise awareness for disability rights at the State Capitol. ?? Honoring a Champion for Brain Injury Awareness ?? South Carolina is observing Brain Injury Awareness Month in alignment with the national theme, “My Brain Injury Journey.” The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN), the state’s lead agency on brain injury, interviewed four individuals with lived experience to highlight their unique journeys. Throughout March, DDSN will release a series of articles and interviews, with a new survivor spotlight shared each week on their social media channels. Tate Mikell was featured as part of their Brain Injury Spotlight during the first week of March. Tate sustained his brain injury as a result of a brain aneurysm.?Since his brain injury, Tate has navigated a new reality and has continued exploring new and old interests including horseback riding and competitive swimming. Head over to DDSN's Facebook Channel to check out the video! As part of this theme, DDSN is proud to present #HeadstrongHits—an inspiring soundtrack curated by brain injury survivors. Each song represents a pivotal moment in their recovery, from struggles to triumphs, showcasing the healing power of music and the resilience of the human spirit. In collaboration with the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina (BIASC), DDSN team members invited survivors to share a song that embodies their journey. Every track was handpicked to reflect personal experiences and emotions, making #HeadstrongHits a powerful testament to perseverance. The full playlist is available now on Spotify.? https://lnkd.in/egqqmxwR DDSN will also host its fourth annual “Baking for Brains” bake sale, where volunteer bakers donate homemade treats, with all proceeds benefiting the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina. Last year’s event raised $1,270, and this year, they're aiming for $1,300 to support brain injury awareness and resources. Additionally, the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina will host an exciting event on March 23 at Bierkeller Columbia! The event features a Walk, Run & Roll along the scenic Columbia Canal, followed by a lively reception with food, drinks, a DJ (who will feature the #HeadstrongHits playlist), and family-friendly fun. Virtual participation is available, so regardless of your location, you can gather a team, get moving, and help BIASC reach its $10,000 fundraising goal for this important cause.
