关于我们
Liver Education Advocates (formerly NASH kNOWledge) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that was established to increase public awareness of liver health, specifically fatty liver disease. We collaborate with organizations across the country and globally with similar goals. We are patients and caregivers advocating for other patients and caregivers. The magnitude of fatty liver and NASH/MASH cannot be overstated. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases estimates that 100 million Americans have fatty liver and that about 20% of those people have NASH/MASH. These diseases are particularly insidious because there are typically no symptoms associated at the onset and the general public is not even aware of the disease. The truly scary part of this is that incidences of fatty liver continue to grow with no end in sight. Even worse, our future generation is at risk with nearly 10% of kids having a fatty liver mainly due to increased consumption of sugar and processed foods. Media coverage of this problem has become more commonplace but it is still relatively unknown to most of our population. Liver Education Advocates is focused on raising more awareness through public speaking engagements, information booths at events, infographics, animated videos and our documentary, "Silent Epidemic: the liver disease NASH." We are honored to share that our NASH kNOWledge founder Tony Villiotti has been invited to be a panel speaker at this event along with many esteemed and distinguished thought leaders in the healthcare space. Many thanks to our NASH kNOWledge Board Member Dr. sammy saab and his team at RONALD REAGAN UCLA for providing us an opportunity to have a presence and share our materials at their "Liver Diseases: Update 2024" event back in August. We had a presence without anyone from our Pittsburgh-based team physically being there! There are so many ways to engage with us, and this is one of them...having an event and would like coloring books, brochures, liver stress relievers, one-page infographics on a variety of specialized aspects of fatty liver and liver health? We don't just have our Liver Health Ambassador Program that is helping us expand nationwide, but we are also willing to send materials needed for one-time events too! You can staff the table, or just have our materials sitting out for the taking. Everything we do in the community, at schools, for medical clinics, providers, etc is completely free (which is why funding is such a critical need of ours. We have over 25 clinics/medical offices using our materials, in addition to these one-time events and our Liver Health Ambassadors. Just reach out if interested and we will get you what you need to help your patients, or whichever audience you serve who could benefit from our materials. The power in these kind of grassroots efforts cannot be overlooked! #liverhealth #liverdisease #loveyourliver #livereducation #liveradvocates #patientadvocacy #patientadvocates #patients #caregivers #awareness #education

Spreading a little peace, love & kindness in all I do ~ passionate about helping others and building community
We recently launched a longer online follow-up survey to people who complete our short-form survey at events. While it is not yet a huge population who has completed the surveys, the responses we have received so far further confirm the gap in knowledge of the general public and the need for the information our team here at NASH kNOWledge and others provides. There continues to be a misconception that liver disease is always, or most often, caused by alcohol and/or drugs. While this is certainly a huge factor in liver disease, non-alcoholic liver diseases are starting to unfortunately take center stage yet so few people realize that! A few of my favorite free form responses that confirm we are making an impact, even if it is one person at a time! :) "My husband is Hispanic and we now understand that there is a high risk of developing fatty liver disease among Hispanics. We also didn’t know how other important information about how the liver works until talking with NASH." "I was surprised to learn that there are many factors that can cause this disease. I was shocked when we discussed the amounts of sugar in drinks and I honestly always thought that alcohol was the main cause. I was surprised to learn that it is a nonalcoholic disease. I have since spoke with my PCP about liver health." "I've become enthusiastic about liver health and the impact of sugar and processed foods on developing NAFL. I found it fascinating that your booth displayed real food alongside their sugar content represented with table sugar. This is incredibly eye-opening for people who don't have a tangible sense of how much sugar they consume daily." #liverhealth #liverdisease #loveyourliver #fattyliver #fattyliverdisease #NAFLD #MASLD #NASH #MASH #sugar #diet #health #healthylifestyle #cirrhosis #livertransplant #patientadvocacy #patientadvocates #nonprofit #awareness #education

Did you know that people living with HIV are at a greater risk for fatty liver? Well now you do! We love creating quick, easy to digest one-page infographics to help various populations understand the disease as it relates to them and this one is our latest! Our well-respected NASH kNOWledge Board Member Dr. Tony Martinez shared some really interesting research and studies on people living with HIV and fatty liver so we decided a new infographic specific to this population was needed. Let us know what you think and feel free to share! Spanish version coming soon. ?? #liverhealth #liverdisease #fattyliver #fattyliverdisease #loveyourliver #metabolichealth #HIV #getscreened #earlydetection #screening #diagnosis #health #awareness #education #infographics #nonprofit

If you were going to be giving a presentation on liver disease (specifically MASLD/NAFLD/MASH/NASH) to a group of Physician Assistant students what would be the top 2-3 points you think are most important to share? I am so used to giving presentations to the general public or audiences who are not educated about the liver so seeking some feedback to help me make sure I am hitting the mark! ;) PS - My presentation is on Monday and no I'm not completely procrastinating, it's mostly done but thought it would help to get some insights from the experts currently in the field! #hepatology #hepatologists #PhysicianAssistants #PAStudents #livereducation #liverhealth #liverdisease #NASH #MASH #NAFLD #MASLD #fattyliver #education
