On Tuesday September 10, The Link Center hosted its inaugural annual steering committee meeting in Washington, DC. Representatives from ACL and lead project partners NASDDDS, NADD, the National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors (NASMHPD), and the National Association of State Head Injury Administrators, along with Green Mountain Self-Advocates, the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, Nisonger Center - University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities , CommunicationFIRST, UNH Center for START Services, and ASU Sonoran Center gathered with Steering Committee members to discuss policies and practices focused on supports for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, brain injuries, communication differences, and other cognitive disabilities, and co-occurring mental health conditions. I was honored to represent NASDDDS at today’s White House celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act. It was wonderful to see so many people with a shared commitment to ensuring that people with disabilities have the opportunity to thrive in their communities - and it was very humbling to be among our nation’s key leaders, advocates and policymakers whose work breathes life into that vision!
