Making our clients' lives easier by meeting medical writing deadlines with excellence and enthusiasm

关于我们

Nascent Medical is a team of MD-and PhD-level medical writers available on-call, so that you never have to worry about having enough medical writing help. We have numerous experienced MD- and PhD-level writers on hand with therapeutic expertise in oncology, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, rare diseases, and more. We match our writers to your project, saving you time and worry. Our track record spans over 20 years, with clients returning again and again to request their preferred writers. We offer transparent up-front pricing, complimentary revisions, and the option to schedule calls with your assigned writer. We create most types of written content in any therapeutic area, including slide decks, manuscripts, needs assessments, and news pieces. We also do medical editing and fact-checking. Based in the US Eastern time zone. Our AI usage policy, as of early 2024, is as follows: We adopt an extremely cautious approach, employing AI-assisted technology solely at the level of individual abstracts. This means we might use AI as a tool to summarize a single abstract that we have identified in PubMed ourselves, and then we meticulously check every sentence of the output before incorporating that summary into a larger piece. We may also use AI to help ensure that our information is complete and that we haven't overlooked anything, for example, in an outline that we have already created. Additionally, we might use AI-assisted technology for an initial review of grammar and the implementation of AMA style. We avoid any usage where we cannot verify the source. We are a talented group of writers committed to maintaining our unique writing voice and accuracy in our work, regardless of emerging technology. Let us help you reduce your stress and workload! The AMA Manual of Style has a detailed section on the use of inclusive language that is worth studying and/or rereading. Here are some key points although do go to the AMA Manual of Style, section 11.12, for all the information. ? Gendered Language in Professional Titles Non-inclusive: The chairman of the ethics committee reviewed the report. Corrected: The chair of the ethics committee reviewed the report. Explanation: Use gender-neutral terms unless the individual's gender is relevant to the context (Section 11.12.1). ? ?Defaulting to Male Pronouns Non-inclusive: Each physician must complete his rounds before noon. Corrected: Each physician must complete their rounds before noon. Explanation: Use "their" as a singular, non-gendered pronoun to avoid unnecessary gendering (Section 11.12.2). ? Inappropriate Racial Comparison Non-inclusive: The study included White participants and non-White participants. Corrected: The study included participants who identified as White, Black or African American, and Asian. Explanation: Avoid vague binary categories like “non-White”; be specific about race and ethnicity (Section 11.12.3). ? Use of Metaphors Related to Disabilities Non-inclusive: The results were blind to the confounding variables. Corrected: The results were independent of the confounding variables. Explanation: Avoid metaphors that trivialize disabilities, such as "blind" (Section 11.12.6). ? ?Use of “Victim” Language Non-inclusive: He is an AIDS victim who receives treatment. Corrected: He is a person with AIDS who receives treatment. Explanation: Use person-first language to avoid defining individuals by their condition (Section 11.12.6). ? ?Stereotyping Age Non-inclusive: The elderly require more support in clinical settings. Corrected: Older adults require more support in clinical settings. Explanation: Avoid stereotypes and use more neutral terms like “older adults” (Section 11.12.4). ? ?Implying Socioeconomic Hierarchy Non-inclusive: The poor struggle to access healthcare services. Corrected: People with low income may struggle to access healthcare services. Explanation: Avoid labeling groups; instead, describe their situation (Section 11.12.5). ? ??Gendered Language for Roles That Are Gender Neutral Non-inclusive: The nurse completed her shift and updated the patient chart. Corrected: The nurse completed their shift and updated the patient chart. Explanation: Use non-gendered pronouns for neutral professions (Section 11.12.2). ? Inaccurate Use of Sexual Orientation Terminology Non-inclusive: She prefers same-sex relationships. Corrected: She is in a same-sex relationship. Explanation: The term “preference” is outdated and implies choice (Section 11.12.7). Much to think about—and again, there's more in the AMA Manual of Style. Do reach out if we can assist! #medicalediting #inclusivelanguage

  • A Guide for Structuring Tables: At Nascent Medical, we frequently encounter the challenge of presenting complex data clearly. One effective method we employ is the creation of well-structured tables. We adhere to the AMA Manual of Style guidelines to ensure our tables are both informative and reader-friendly. Here are some key principles: ?? Data Arrangement: Organize data from left to right for primary comparisons, aligning with natural reading patterns. ?? Column Headings: Be concise, clear, and descriptive. Always include units of measure for precision. ?? Row Headings (Stubs): Left-justify these and use indents to demonstrate hierarchical relationships within the data. ?? Data Field: Maintain consistency with headings and ensure logical ordering of data to facilitate easy comprehension. ?? Footnotes: Use superscript lowercase letters (a-z) strategically placed to provide additional context or explanations. ?? Precision and Units: Maintain consistency in decimal places and rounding. For statistical significance, we typically report P values to P < .001 as the lowest threshold. ?? Table Size: To enhance readability, consider dividing extensive tables into smaller, more manageable sections. Hopefully, these tips are helpful if you ever have to create tables. • A 2023 study evaluated the impact of misspellings in health sciences literature on citation retrieval across multiple databases, including PubMed and CINAHL. Commonly misspelled words significantly affected search results, with 57% of citations for "ophthalmology" and 82% for "arrhythmia" being missed when correctly spelled terms were used. The findings suggest that misspellings are more prevalent than expected and can prevent the retrieval of clinically significant articles, potentially impacting patient care.
