A study by the LCLUC-funded?GLAD team found that since 1990, Indonesia has lost 25% of its old-growth forests, with 44% of deforested land remaining idle for over five years before primarily being converted to oil palm plantations. At the NASA Land Cover Land Use Change Program Annual Science Team meeting 2024, McKenzie Johnson (PI) and Bin Peng (Co-PI) presented their LCLUC project, which examines the relationship between #LCLUC, conflict, and peacebuilding in post-conflict #Colombia. This research is critical for understanding how conflict dynamics interact with landscape change to influence both livelihood security and biodiversity. This is particularly critical in Colombia, a megadiverse country that hosts close to 10% of Earth's #biodiversity.
