I've been working with the American Lung Association for the past few years to consider how satellite data can support their #airquality and #publichealth outreach. This work has been funded in part by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, especially the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team, with amazing work from grad student Lizzy Kysela. Super excited to see their report released today: "Something In the Air" -- the opportunities for satellite data to inform air quality, even away from monitors. I'm happy to answer any questions!

Happy to share our new paper, published today: "Simulated Surface-Column NO2?Connections for Satellite Applications" by Monica Harkey and me, supported by the NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Sciences Team. If you've ever looked down at fish in a pond ... you might be able to count the fish, but it's hard to tell whether they're swimming near the surface or near the bottom. That's the same idea with satellites, which can see the total column abundance of certain chemicals - like NO2 - but not whether the pollution is near the earth's surface where cars are driving and people are breathing. This paper uses a computer model to help understand how to interpret surface NO2 based on satellite column data, especially new hourly satellite information from #TEMPO #GEMS and #Sentinal4 https://lnkd.in/gS5bVrKq

Disadvantaged populations living near warehouses are disproportionately exposed to higher levels of air pollution. Targeted emission control interventions and protective measures are especially needed for vulnerable populations near warehouses.
