Are we starting to reach the limits of scale? https://lnkd.in/edb-u38V In the past year, the belief that the bringing about of AGI was directly contingent with an increase in single-model scale was almost universally accepted. OpenAI and others invested heavily in making models larger, assuming AGI would emerge from sheer scale. But history tells us that breakthrough technologies often follow an S-curve, enjoying explosive growth followed by plateaus. We believe LLMs have hit this plateau, as suggested by this recent Reuters article. Our perspective at Naptha AI is that next-gen breakthroughs won’t come just from scaling model size, but from innovation in how these models think and coordinate at a higher level. OpenAI treats AI as a monolithic entity, but we see AGI as a collective: billions of smaller, specialized models or "agents" working together, each contributing unique insights and capabilities. This diverse network, rather than a single, homogenous model, could drive real intelligence and adaptability. In our vision, AGI won’t run on a single server; it will be a distributed, interconnected web of agents, operating seamlessly across diverse devices. If applied universally, this approach will be the path forward to overcoming the current scaling challenges.

I realized the importance of a new, more decentralized approach to AI over 3 years ago and quit my job in centralized AI to focus on it full time.
