Join NAPB, National Association for Plant Breeding and the Education Committee as Dr. Patricio Munoz showcases his blueberry breeding program at the University of Florida on Thursday, February 27th at 11 am PST || 2 pm EST. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gktPAhkD. ? Dr. Patricio Munoz is an Associate Professor of Horticultural Sciences at the University of Florida. Dr. Munoz focuses on the development of high yielding, high quality, and better disease/pest resistance southern high bush blueberry cultivars. In his program he explore the genetic variability of commercially important blueberry traits using traditional breeding tools and quantitative genetics, with the aim of?increasing genetic gain?in selection traits, and optimizing the generation of new cultivars. With interests in discovering, developing, and applying molecular marker information to advance plant breeding through?Marker Assisted Selection?(MAS) and?Genome-Wide Selection?(GWS).

NAPB, National Association for Plant Breeding转发了
It was fun making the meals and taking the photo! Cowpea is a crop of great importance in my country, Nigeria ????. I had to show everyone some of the ways we consume this protein-rich crop. Thanks NAPB Graduate Students and NAPB, National Association for Plant Breeding!
Recently, we organized a photo contest and after a rigorous selection process, we are happy to announce that we have three winners ?? Habib Akinmade, Ph.D student at the University of Florida shared a photo about the “Culinary and Genetic Diversity in Cowpea” This photo celebrates the rich diversity in cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp) breeding, showing various seed colors and types, each paired with a traditional dish it can create. The photo displays the importance of diversity for food security and agricultural resilience by highlighting the genetic variation within cowpea germplasm. Stephanie Botton, a Masters student at the University of Georgia shared a photo about: “Research brings the world together”. Global collaborations are necessary for researchers, especially breeders, to alleviate current and future agricultural obstacles. Where some of these collaborations occur in zoom and conference rooms, others occur in more informal places like a peanut field during harvest. In this photo, a trial aimed at studying peanut reproductive traits (flowering-time and position, and pod maturity) were hand harvested by UGA graduate students, technicians, and a visiting scholar. The diverse atmosphere of this research is an excellent way to share other life perspectives, diverse cultures, and can often provide many moments of laughter and enjoyment. Maliheh Shaltouki, PhD student at Purdue University shared a photo that captures an array of sorghum seeds, each distinct in color and texture, nestled in rustic wooden scoops. The diversity in seed appearance highlights the richness of genetic variation achieved through plant breeding. The orderly arrangement of scoops, paired with the scattered seeds, symbolizes both the precision and natural beauty of agricultural diversity. Please join us to celebrate our winners ?? #napb #diversity #plantbreeding
