Our powwow is just a few days away! We welcome our family and friends from near and far to join us on our ancestral land on the Nansemond River. Our annual cultural celebration is a unique blend of music, dance, food, and crafts, showcasing the best of our region's talent. This year, we will celebrate the powerful partnerships that have significantly expanded our environmental stewardship, the Mattanock settlement, the grand opening of Fishing Point Healthcare, and more. We are grateful for your support and ask for your help in spreading the word about this exciting weekend!

The theme of this year's American Indian Science & Engineering Society (#AISES) Region 7 Conference was "Launching Connections," and we are so grateful for the meaningful connections we have made! On April 4-5, we visited #NASA Langley Research Center, and on April 6, the conference came to Mattanock Town for a day of cultural activities. We shared the site's significance (from past, present, and future perspectives) and immersed our visitors in exciting projects within our environmental program. We extend our heartfelt thanks to AISES, the #VirginiaTech AISES Chapter, the Planning Committee, and all participants for such a memorable experience!

Associate Director of the SOAR Program (Student Opportunities and Achievement Resources) at Virginia Tech
Connections Launched ?? That's a wrap on the AISES Region 7 Conference hosted by the Virginia Tech Chapter of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society. It was an honor to be on the planning?committee for this great conference that brings Indigenous students, professionals, employers, government agencies, and tribal nationals together. The support we received from Nansemond Indian Nation and NASA Langley Research Center was incredible, and I cannot thank?you all enough! The stories I listened to as I drove Virginia Tech students back to Blacksburg last night after the conference wrapped up were amazing because they reminded?me of the?power and importance of AISES for Indigenous students and professionals. AISES Region 7 is growing and I am excited to see what the future holds as we continue to nurture connections launched at the conference this week! Thank you to our amazing opening ceremony and banquet keynote speakers, Zach Oxendine and Nikki Bass. Thank you to the talented and hard-working Virginia Tech students that made this possible: Haley Bowyer, Mackenzie Locklear, Irma Adams, Bryce Burrell and Greg Brinson. Thank you to the professionals on the planning committee who put in so many hours into planning on top of their full-time jobs:?Casey Denham, Caroline Montgomery, Lisa Wininger, Michael Sanderson, Nikki Bass, Cameron Bruce, Kaitlan Lyons and Myia Reyes, MPA. Thank you Chief Keith F. Anderson, all Nansemond Indian Nation tribal council members, tribal members and staff for your support!

The Nansemond Indian Nation would like to thank all volunteers who made the Mattanock Town tree planting so successful. Over two days, with approximately 45 participants, we planted 450 trees as part of our ongoing effort to restore our ancestral land and waterways. Kenah (Thanks) again for volunteering with the Nansemond Indian Nation, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!
