NAMI Southeast Wisconsin opened a new hub location at Concordia 27 this summer. This collaborative space has brought so much collective energy around the idea of wellness as well as increased access to supportive services in the near west side. We're proud to be part of this movement. ?P.S. If you participated in our NAMIWalks a few weeks ago, you'll recognize Tiffany Miller who delivered a poem about living with joy at our walk:) Tiffany is the owner of Fruition Mke, a cafe, co-working space, and maker-space at Concordia 27. If you know someone who struggles with suicidal ideation, let them know that they can talk with you about what they’re going through. Talking about suicide does not encourage someone to take their life. #suicidepreventionmonth . . . ?? ASK: “Are you thinking about suicide?” It’s not an easy question to ask, but it can help start a conversation. Studies show that asking people if they are suicidal does not increase suicidal behavior or thoughts. ??BE THERE: Listening without judgment is key to learning what the person is thinking and feeling. Research suggests acknowledging and talking about suicide may reduce suicidal thoughts. ??HELP KEEP THEM SAFE: Reducing access to highly lethal items or places can help prevent suicide. Asking the person if they have a plan and making lethal means less available or less deadly can help the person stay safe when suicidal thoughts arise. ??HELP THEM CONNECT: Connecting the person with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline?(call or text 988) and other community resources can give them a safety net when they need it. You can also help them reach out to a trusted family member, friend, spiritual advisor, or mental health professional. ??FOLLOW UP: Staying in touch with the person after they have experienced a crisis or been discharged from care can make a difference. Studies show that supportive, ongoing contact can play an important role in suicide prevention. (source: National Institute of Mental Health) . . . "The stress and mental health challenges faced by parents — just like loneliness, workplace well-being and the impact of social media on youth mental health — aren’t always visible, but they can take a steep toll. It’s time to recognize they constitute a serious public health concern for our country. Parents who feel pushed to the brink deserve more than platitudes. They need tangible support." US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek H. Murthy. ??If you or someone you know is struggling, we are here to help...www.namisoutheastwi.org https://lnkd.in/g5KqiDkM?

Is #mentalhealth seen as a priority in your workplace? While 1 out of 5 people will experience a mental illness, 5 out of 5 are impacted. Post-partum depression, anxiety, OCD, Bipolar disorder, eating disorders and others affect how we show up each day and how we interact with each other. And it can make it extremely challenging and isolating for those who experience shame and stigma. We are proud to celebrate the companies who are making an investment in healthy communities through their sponsorship of this year's NAMIWalks awareness and fundraising event on October 5 at the Milwaukee County Zoo. If you are part of a company that cares, please share and consider sponsorship as a way to show employees and the community that #mentalhealthmatters. Or form a team and walk with 1000 of your community members! Can't wait to get one step closer to ending the stigma around mental illness! https://lnkd.in/g8xQ6dpY #namiwalks #iamnamiwalks #endthestigma Rogers Behavioral Health Froedtert Health AbbVie Quartz Health Solutions Eaton The Boldt Company Optum @mhshealthwisconsin
