We at NALSC: the National Association of Legal Search Consultants are thrilled to announce the availability of the new Universal Lateral Partner Questionnaire (U-LPQ). The purpose of the U-LPQ is to minimize inefficiency in the lateral partner recruiting and hiring process, conserve all parties’ time and resources, enable more choices for candidates and law firms, streamline the often burdensome and duplicative LPQ process, and provide crucial partner data in the most accurate manner. #legalrecruiter #law #lawfirms #lawpartners #lateralhires

Do many job changes on a resume signal a red flag or an opportunity? Conventional wisdom, at least until recently, viewed serial moves as a warning sign of risks that most employers wished to avoid. This article argues that things have changed: https://buff.ly/WB4blSK What do you think? #NALSC #legalrecruiting #lawjobs #legaljobs #resumes

Government lawyers now flooding the job market may not understand that practicing law in the private sector is like entering a whole new world. These lawyers may be shocked to learn that they are “entering a completely different professional culture” which has very different priorities. Behavior that was valued in the government may not be rewarded on the outside. Roles and rules are not as clearly defined and “hard work, being a team player, helping your colleagues” may not necessarily get you ahead. “Firms compensate according to what they value.” And “Every firm is different.” Read this article to learn “what anyone considering a switch from the public sector to a private law partnership needs to find out.” https://buff.ly/9iWZcNL Words to the wise. A good legal recruiter can help you understand the nuances and navigate the change. Start here: The NALSC: the National Association of Legal Search Consultants online directory at https://buff.ly/FmlkcvM lists our members—all of whom have pledged to abide the NALSC Code of Ethics https://buff.ly/W5w6DP3. #NALSC #legalrecruiting #lawjobs #legaljobs #governmentlawyers

Are you feeling lonely? If so, you’re not alone. “The legal profession is uniquely vulnerable to loneliness, especially in the current hybrid environment most firms continue to embrace. The traditional billable-hour model discourages social interaction, long hours can lead to isolation, and the adversarial nature of legal work fosters competition over collaboration.” “Addressing this issue is not just about well-being; it is also about productivity, retention and profitability.” This recent article in Law360 https://buff.ly/BZofSxM (behind a paywall) discusses the sad statistics, myths which hinder effectively handling the issue, and specific strategies for easing the situation. What is your firm doing to reduce the feelings of isolation endemic to the legal profession? #NALSC #legalrecruiting #lawjobs #legalprofession #mentalhealth

Just because “everyone is doing it” doesn’t mean it’s right. It's follow the leader time again in the legal marketplace, and this time it involves Return to Office policies: https://buff.ly/YGFMPZC Most legal recruiters will tell you, from speaking to thousands of lawyers all day long, every day, flexibility is best. Nothing much has changed when it comes to dealing with the mental health crisis in the legal profession. A year has passed since a coroner ruled that a London law firm partner’s suicide was caused, in part, by the pervasive toxic work culture in law. In fact, “None of the eight people who have spoken for this piece [https://buff.ly/rSeOnV9] —from partners to associates, from therapists to mental health campaigners—really believe anything significant has changed within the industry.” Some think it’s gotten worse. The article continues, “Most experts agree that much of the problem lies in the very core financial mechanism of the industry—the ubiquitous billable hour.” When is the legal profession going to change? Can it? Will it? #NALSC #legalrecruiting #lawjobs #legalprofession #mentalhealth
