JUST IN: Congratulations Congresswoman Lori Chavez-DeRemer on her nomination to serve as Secretary of the Department of Labor. If confirmed, she would be the second Latina to hold the position. A California native, she had already made history by being the first Latina to be elected mayor of Happy Valley, Oregon, and is one of Oregon’s only two Latinas ever to be elected to Congress. We look forward to Congresswoman Chavez-DeRemer bringing her background to this top-level position and carrying out her functions as Secretary of Labor with integrity and strong leadership. ?? Nearly 70 participants, representing 18 states, have joined us in Dallas, Texas for our Biennial Institute for Newly Elected Officials! ??????????? For three days, newly elected Latino policymakers will participate in interactive discussions, exercises, and networking opportunities that will prepare them as they launch into their careers in public service. The first day of the Institute culminated with the Latino Leadership Reception where guests were treated to a selection of works by acclaimed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. #NALEOBootcamp #LatinoLeaders #TheNALEONetwork #NALEOFamilia #LatinasLead

We congratulate Senator Marco Rubio on his historic nomination as the first Latino and Cuban-American to serve as the next Secretary of State. His knowledge and experience, including his service on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as Vice Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, further make him an unparalleled choice to head the State Department. We look forward to Senator Rubio bringing his experience and background to the job and carrying out the country’s foreign policy with competence and responsibility.
