An update from NAFA's Legislative & Advocacy arm: "Fleets provide critical services to every American every day. Fleets provide fire, policy, ambulance and other emergency services, public transit, school buses, trash trucks and road and utility maintenance and repair. Fleets provide mail and package delivery and ensure grocery stores and retail establishments remain stocked with products. Fleets are also critical to the automotive sector and its suppliers. They buy 20% of all vehicles sold in the US and operate 25% of all vehicles on the road, including passenger cars, delivery vans, tractor trailers and off-road equipment like bulldozers and road graders. Fleets use a variety of drive train technologies to reduce operating costs and lower emissions, including gasoline, diesel, renewable fuels, hydrogen and electric vehicles. With EVs a growing component of the global market, auto OEMs see EV production as critical to their future. China has a head start on EV production and sales, and western OEMs are racing to catch up. Many of the federal EV related policies are intended to help OEMs reach EV production scale more rapidly, improving their economics and their ability to compete. This is leading to rapidly expanding US manufacturing of electric vehicles and their components, like batteries, bolstering the US economy. Supporting policy that brings down the cost of vehicles and increases their availability, including EVs, is good for fleets, good for taxpayers and good for consumers. ?? The 30D and 45W tax credits help lower the initial cost of purchase for light, medium and heavy duty EVs in ways that contribute to lower total cost of ownership (TCO) for fleets and expand their production. In particular 45W is important to fleets, helping with the purchase or leasing of medium and heavy duty EVs. By driving more demand 45W is helping to scale vehicle manufacturing and reduce per unit cost for these vehicles. ?? Charging infrastructure grant programs like NEVI and the Alternative Fuel Corridor grants help to expand public charging networks. Some fleets use distributed charging, and it contributes to more EV uptake, helping lower EV costs and improve fleet economics. ?? These programs help US fleets reduce costs for taxpayers (roughly half of US fleets are public, such as schools and police forces) and consumers, and help US auto OEMs improve their ability to compete with Chinese manufacturers for global sales. As Congress considers potential changes to policies NAFA encourages them to preserve these important policies that help fleets do their critical jobs cost effectively while lowering transport related emissions."
