We recently hosted 30 leaders from around Nacogdoches for Leadership Nac's Healthcare Day! We treated them to a tour of our facilities, including our operating room where they got a personal demonstration from Dr. Oviedo, robotic surgeon. They also visited our cath lab and the Laird Cancer Center, participated in Stop-The-Bleed and CPR sessions, and even checked out the Southeast Texas Regional Advisory Council's communications bus. We're proud of our services and enjoyed showing local leaders what's available to them in Nacogdoches. Shoutout to our latest DAISY Award Winners! ?? Mendy Shugart, RN is on the same-day surgery team, helping to prepare patients for procedures when they arrive. According to her nomination, "She is empathetic and caring with them and establishes a positive rapport. She is open for questions and answers them promptly as she is preparing the patients for their impending surgery. She has excellent clinical skills and confidence when starting IV’s, drawing blood, doing EKG’s etc. She displays a caring attitude, takes ownership of her patients, and swiftly handles issues." ?? Nicole Vaughn, RN is a ray of sunshine in our Shelby County ER, making patients feel warm and safe on every shift. Her nominating coworker said, "working with her is the best part of every shift she is on. She will make you want to be a better nurse, coworker, and friend. ?? Physical Therapy Spotlight ?? Shoutout to Taylor, a Doctor of Physical Therapy in the NMC family. A graduate of Nacogdoches High School, Taylor pursued a competitive swimming career in high school and college. After graduating, she continued her love of sport by studying physical therapy at Southwestern University and UT Galveston. Taylor enjoys working with a variety of patients, including orthopedic injuries, post-operative treatment, and gait and balance disorders. Taylor is happy to be back home in East Texas with her husband, Jacob, and almost 1-year-old daughter, Caroline, to serve to the community she grew up in. Here's what one of her patients had to say: "Taylor did a thorough job and had a plan for my therapy that would get me where I wanted to be when I finished. It was clear that she was invested in my success. I feel very fortunate to have had Taylor as my therapist and I’m grateful for the help she provided me." ?? Physical Therapy Spotlight ?? Meet Kyle, a Physical Therapist Assistant at NMC. Kyle is a Texas A&M graduate with a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. After earning his certification as a Personal Trainer, he worked with diverse clients across various age groups and sports during and after college. Following graduation, he served as a Science Teacher and Coach for Football, Track, and Strength & Conditioning at Katy ISD. In July 2024, Kyle earned a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) certification, specializing in sports rehab. He completed clinical rotations in Houston, gaining expertise in injury recovery and rehabilitation with every age group.
