I’m heading to Philly in June for my first National Association of Colleges and Employers conference! That’s exciting on it’s own, but I also get to share about Miami University - Center for Career Exploration and Success’ first ever International Student Career Trek in my session titled Inclusive Employer Visits: Career Treks for International Students! My vision for this session is that other universities use Miami’s playbook to facilitate more off-campus employer networking opportunities for international students across the US! This is a great accomplishment, and I must acknowledge my mentor, and primary presenter, Dr. Alicia S. Monroe, Ed.D.. In my professional career, as a career counselor, she continues to challenge me, to "expand my boundaries, skills, to push my limits'. My session will focus on social capital and explore how your network's perception of your value can either amplify or propel your career trajectory. As someone who has researched and experienced the power of strategic networking, I'm looking forward to sharing insights that could transform how you approach relationships, both personal and professional. This opportunity builds on my previous work with the South Carolina Women in Higher Education's, Women's Leadership Academy, where I collaborated on a social capital research project that re-ignited my passion for this topic. Exciting news! ?? This June, I’ll be presenting at the National Association of Colleges and Employers Conference & Expo in #Philadelphia alongside my dear friend, Rebecca K.! ?? Our session, "Closet to Career: LGBTQIA+ Identity Disclosure in the Digital Era," will explore how #LGBTQIA+ college students navigate social media affordances for identity disclosure in the context of professional development and job searches.
