During #LungCancerMonth, NACDD supports the #GreatAmericanSmokeOut, a day that encourages people to start their journey to a smoke-free life! NACDD’s Disability Inclusion Network believes that everyone should have the tools they need to stop smoking. Do you want to make sure your communities have access to inclusive tobacco cessation tools? Here are a few tips: ? Partner with people with disabilities and disability-led service organizations to make sure your cessation services are accessible and intentionally inclusive. ? Ensure all cessation materials (digital and physical) are in accessible formats including plain language, easy read, and screen reader formats, large print, alt-text +image descriptions for images, closed captions on videos, and braille, and/or American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation if appropriate etc. ? Make sure to offer multiple service delivery options such as accessible counseling locations, quiet and scent-free environments, and telehealth options. ? Ensure Quit Line personnel are trained in using the Telecommunications Relay Service for Deaf and hard of hearing callers who want to quit. Approximately one half (52.2%–62.4%) of adults aged ≥65 years with self-reported diagnosed dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, stroke, heart disease, diabetes, or cancer also had a reported diagnosis of arthritis. This highlights the significant overlap between these health issues and underscores the importance of comprehensive care for older adults. It's World Diabetes Day—a day to bring awareness to diabetes prevention, screening, and treatment. The fact that 1 in 5 American adults with diabetes don't know they have it shows that millions of Americans may not be living in a way that's best for their long-term health. If you have diabetes, it's important to be aware of the risk factors, symptoms, and the importance of managing blood sugar. Today, let's work to raise awareness and encourage routine health checkups. Knowing your numbers and understanding your risk factors could make all the difference. If you think you may have diabetes, don't be afraid to talk about it with your doctor. It can be scary to get diagnosed with a chronic illness, but it's always much better to be informed of your health status than it is to be unaware of what you need. It's all about becoming more proactive! #WorldDiabetesDay #ChronicIllness #Diabetes
