The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) are excited to announce the first virtual learning session of the 2025 Getting Further Faster (GFF) Community of Practice (CoP). Supported by the CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, the GFF CoP is designed to connect and support community, public health, and healthcare coalitions and partners working to address non-medical factors that influence chronic disease in their communities, like improving neighborhood design, linking communities with healthcare, increasing access to nutritious food, promoting social connections, and creating tobacco-free environments. In this virtual learning session, Tennessee state and local health department representatives will discuss their initiatives, barriers, and lessons learned. Happy #ManuscriptMonday! Our team's newest journal article shares evaluation findings from four local health departments funded by NACCHO to implement the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended test of cure (TOC) for pharyngeal gonorrhea. The evaluation assessed the yield and feasibility of implementing TOC in clinical #PublicHealth practice. Overall, the local health departments perceived TOC to be feasible but resource intensive. Low return rates, limited culture collection, and limited culture yield highlight challenges to determining the cause of a positive TOC and the limitations of TOC in identifying cephalosporin resistance. Facilitators to successfully implementing TOC included: ? Conducting TOC at least 10 days post-treatment to decrease the chance of false positive tests; ? Proactively building leadership and clinical team buy-in to integrate TOC into existing workflows; and, ? Offering in-person clinic testing methods and incorporating patient education into the TOC visits to improve the rate of test return.
