Pauline Flett Middle School draws deeply from its location in the Spokane River Valley, weaving natural elements into its design. The warm wood tones, sand-and-gray brick, and flowing river-inspired perforated metal panels reflect the valley’s ridges and the Spokane River’s meandering path. At the heart of the school, a central student commons anchors the building, connecting multiuse spaces for group work, art, and study, while offering a venue for events and assemblies. Outside, thoughtfully designed play and plaza areas extend the school’s role as a community hub, while grade-level “neighborhoods” inside foster a sense of belonging and collaboration. Exciting Progress at Northshore Schools! Congratulations to Woodin Elementary School, Crystal Springs Elementary School, Fernwood Elementary School, and Sorenson Early Childhood Center on breaking ground this fall for their building expansion projects! These progressive design-build projects take a holistic approach to campus improvement, creating compact solutions tailored to each school’s unique needs. The expansions will provide new permanent classrooms to replace outdated portables, create inclusive play and outdoor learning areas for all abilities, and enhance site circulation for parents, buses, and pedestrians. Throughout the process, students, parents, staff, and administrators have been deeply involved in shaping the vision and design of these exciting changes. Together, we’re creating vibrant new spaces for learning, gathering, and exploration—spaces that will enrich school life and strengthen their surrounding communities. The design provides caregiving teams with an enhanced and efficient space to communicate and collaborate. By standardizing the patient experience, the building transformed into a patient-centered health hub driven by comfort, convenience, hospitality, and staff productivity.
