It’s that time of year! Since 1988, The University of Texas' chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists has cultivated Black journalists, communications professionals and media specialists who went on to make an impact at companies such as CNN, NBCUniversal and PBS. Now, more than ever, it is crucial to cultivate talented, ethical communicators of all backgrounds. We are once again requesting your support to send our members to the 2025 NABJ convention in Cleveland, Ohio. Thanks to the support of over 40 people, we were able to send our six officers to the 2024 NABJ convention in Chicago despite reduced funding due to Senate Bill 17, the anti-DEI bill. There, our officers had the opportunity to learn and grow as journalists and leaders. Please consider donating to our $6,000 fundraising goal at the link below. Any amount helps. Your donation would go toward: ?Hotel costs ? Convention registration fees ? Plane tickets Any money made over this amount will go back to our chapter to cover general club expenses (e.g., food at meetings, chapter registration fees and dues, etc.). We truly appreciate your support. Donate here: https://gofund.me/b62b23f0

Last week, our officers had the incredible opportunity to attend the NABJ 2024 Convention in Chicago. Despite the significant challenges our organization has faced due to Senate Bill 17, the Anti-DEI bill, we were able to raise enough money to make this trip possible and we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to our GoFundMe. Your contributions enabled our officers to attend the national convention, where they gained invaluable experiences and connections! At the convention, our officers participated in enriching sessions on topics like documentary filmmaking, covering the legal system, genealogy and journalism, and transitioning from journalism to communications/PR, among others. They also had the chance to reconnect with many peers and professionals they had previously met through NABJ. A highlight of the trip was meeting Michael Douglas, the founder of NABJ UT, who established the organization in 1988. Beyond the convention, our officers also explored the beauty of Chicago with a guided architecture boat tour and a visit to the Chicago Art Institute. Thank you once again for your unwavering support!
