NABIP-TX’s Legislative Council has been actively working on a solution to what we call the “Senate Bill 51” problem - an aging statute that requires payment of premiums of terminated employees unless the notice of their termination is communicated by the employer to the agent with at least 72 hours notice. Modern technology and the age of electronic feeds has resulted in complications with compliance of this law in recent years. After working with multiple carriers and legislators, we are actively supporting Senate Bill 1332 by Senator Kelly Hancock which would provide a solution and allow carriers to waive payment for a terminated employee that has not received any services.? NABIP Texas Legislative Chair Rita Rolf, CRPS? was asked by the Senate Health & Human Services to travel to Austin and testify on the bill. She did so this week and represented us well!
