These days, people are claiming to be a "bestselling author" and on the top lists of all sorts of things. But in reality, it's very easy to fake. Even if they are on some lists, they could be the temporary pushes for when they give aways hundreds of books on first release so they can manipulate their chart rankings. Plus, you can pay to have your book featured anywhere. Because of this obsession of being a "bestselling author", there are now rogue publishers everywhere who are even charging authors to publish their books just tapping into egos. Don't feel the need to write a book, just because it looks like everyone else is. I know many people who made all the effort and saw zero ROI!

It’s what these memberships do when they only “open their doors” to a few people occasionally - creating FOMO for you. In my research, I found websites and subscriptions which literally fake any form of “social proof” you want. Including OF! The fact these companies exist show how many people are faking their “success” and how easy it is. Oh, I was actually on a yacht with Rio - that much is true ;)

I just delivered a talk at Google!!!??????? And it was my highest paid talk yet.??? What an honour it was to be invited to Google’s headquarters to help inspire a room full of their leading ladies. If you’ve seen my content, you know that I constantly champion: ?? Speaking your mind, even if it’s different to others ?? Always being respectful to any differing views ?? Having difficult conversations to educate ?? Staying truly authentic… always I delivered a talk to the ladies of Google on how to build a genuinely authentic personal brand, rather than one that consists of templates and made up leadership stories. I’m so pleased that after the talk, many of them said they had the confidence to start showing up online and share their genuine views without the fear of being shot down.??? I cannot believe this entire room at Google was filled for little old meeeeee. And thank you so much for the amazing Google goodie bag too! I love merch!??? I do these talks for all genders and the idea is to help empower people to have the confidence to show up truly authentically online and understand how to deal with negativity. I did NOT deliver a talk at Google yesterday. I’m actually sitting at home in my pyjamas right now munching on some pringles. The photos of me at Google are genuine and they’ve been from previous talks I’ve done in the building. However, they were much smaller and not about the above. I nicked the other photos from Google - that random group of women was nothing to do with me, but obviously I wanted it to look bigger than my previous events. This is a classic sort of post I see all the time on LinkedIn. Public speaking is becoming “glamorous” and the ultimate form of thought leadership. People are claiming to do talks at brands all over the world, saying that they’re getting big paid deals etc., but in reality, they’re not even there! Or, somewhat possibly worse, they’re PAYING to be there. Yes, people literally pay to be on a stage, fly out to a different country on their own dime, just so they can write about it on LinkedIn and make themselves look important. If you’re wondering how your competitors are all landing these paid speaking gigs, a lot of the time they’re not. There are a lot of people smashing it in this area and are really genuine, but please look out for this kind of BS. If someone did a big talk like this, you would actually see lots of other people writing posts about it and tagging them in with their takeaways.
