The topic of this Boston Globe Media article is right up our alley, but of special interest to MVES since our CEO Lisa Gurgone is quoted. She shares her thoughts on wearable tech that’s designed to increase the safety of older adults, especially those with chronic health issues, by constantly acquiring and reading data from sensors. MVES has been exploring tech aimed at improving our aging experience; you may have seen some of it at our recent Caregiver Red Carpet. This tech from Tufts University is definitely cutting-edge; it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds. Our CEO Lisa Gurgone and COO Lesley Nolan attended an Elder Appreciation Breakfast today. It’s an annual pre-Thanksgiving tradition hosted by GREATER MALDEN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, INC. Thanks for inviting us, GMBH! The event was at 630 Salem St., a HOUSING AUTHORITY CITY OF MALDEN site where MVES has long partnered with MHA through our Supportive Housing Program. Our leadership enjoyed talking with residents as well as local and state officials services. We even got to see Malden Mayor Gary Christenson and MA State Senator Paul Donato help serve breakfast! … #malden #maldenMA #maldenhousing #behavioralhealth #aging #AgingServices #MVES

Who doesn’t love getting a gift card? At MVES, this gift is even more special. Thanks to Wegmans Food Markets in Medford, we were able to stock up on shelf-stable food items. Our Nutrition Team will use these supplies to create bags that are ready in case of an emergency. Some of our #MealsOnWheels consumers struggle with mobility or with financial constraints. When a member of our Nutrition Team notices a consumer isn’t prepared for an emergency, such as a power outage, these bags will be ready to go out. Thank you, Wegmans! ?????? #thankyou #wegmans #beprepared #shelfstable #olderadults #adultswithdisabilities #medford #medfordMA #MVES

Our HR Department has been helping us to be a wellness-focused workplace. The latest offering was an after-work yoga class at our office. Leslie Roy, yoga instructor extraordinaire, also works at Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services, which is a fellow Aging Services Access Point (ASAP). So she was the perfect person to guide the MVES yoga class! #teambonding #wellnessatwork #MVES #TeamMVES #HR #humanresources #yoga

There are plenty of good reasons to be kind, forgiving, altruistic... but here's another great reason. It can actually help you live a longer and healthier life. How do we know? MVES hosted an excellent guest speaker today, Immaculata De Vivo, whose cancer research led her to spread the word via her book, "The Biology of Kindness: Six Daily Choices for Health, Well-Being, and Longevity." Dr. De Vivo was a compelling speaker, blending science with compassion and common sense. It was great seeing how many of our audience had questions for her. Looking forward to reading the book!

National Family Caregivers Month is the time to recognize those caring for a loved one, of course, and this is a group that deeply deserves recognition. But here on LinkedIn, we'd also like to recognize our Caregiver Support team. They are incredibly dedicated, and you see the results in all that they do. Our equine therapy program at Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm just wrapped its fall session (pictured here). We love their "It Takes a Herd" program and we're proud to have been part of its creation. But this is just one of many ways our team helps caregivers. They host support groups. They organize art therapy classes to give caregivers an outlet. They help families navigate the options for health and home care, and the list goes on. Special thanks to Kathy Learned-Schwarzmann and Paula Buccilli for all they do!
