It’s not every day that a seal finds itself in the middle of a busy city street! The weanling gray seal that Mystic Aquarium rescued from Chapel Street in New Haven, Conn., is making a splash in the media, for sure. If you haven’t heard the story, a young seal that is likely just a few weeks old wandered into the city this past Sunday from the nearby shoreline. The goal for this seal, along with every other rescued marine mammal and sea turtle at Mystic Aquarium, is to release the seal back to its ocean home once he is healthy and strong. It often takes months to rehabilitate a seal for release, and it can cost up to $10,000 per animal. Whether it’s a city street in New Haven or a beach in Rhode Island, Mystic Aquarium responds to stranded marine life along 1,000 miles of coastline. We're excited to announce that four new little ones have joined the Mystic Aquarium African penguin colony! The chicks hatched on Jan. 6, 7, 9, and 10. The hatching of these four chicks is vital because the African penguin population has declined by 97% worldwide, with estimates suggesting they could disappear from the wild within the next decade.

Mostly active at night, Mossy frogs spend most of the day hiding in the water under rocks or attached to niches in rock outcroppings where they appear to be part of the moss growing on the rock.
