Introduction: My 2024 Career Webinar Series For Students And Young Professionals Yesterday I had a very upsetting call with one of my clients... whose "out of touch" manager gave her incorrect information, then berated her for not understanding the assignment (which she did perfectly) that left her in tears .... and so sick to her stomach ... she threw up! So after I cooled off, because I was extremely upset. I decided this: I am downloading the last 15 years of my life, work, and world experiences into a series of webinars on topics, ideas, and insights I believe will be of tremendous value. And honestly ... it’s going to be (insert explicative) awesome! I'm so hyped about it, it's crazy. We are going to have a ton of fun and learn a lot from each other. As President of the NYU SPS Tisch Center of Hospitality Alumni Society I am proud to serve this alumni community. DON'T use ChatGPT For Your Resume (here are 4 reasons why) Yesterday I was reviewing a resume and realized It was the 4th one this week that was not customized and obviously AI produced. So I thought it would be helpful to share a few ideas on why ChatGPT may not serve you: 1 - Not Updated: AI tools don't include latest industry trends that are key for customization 2 - No Customization: Resumes must be tailored otherwise wording is too broad and generic 3 - Generic Wording: No customization means that keywords recruiters are missing keywords 4 - Missing Keywords: Suggest that you are not focused or detail oriented and stop your success AI is great for brainstorming. But you must invest the time and energy to properly tailor your resume. Why College Students Should Avoid ChatGHPT (first ... let's get real. Avoiding it just ain't happening) Heck when my well meaning Asian parents yelled at me just for using a calculator I smartly said "ok whatever" and learned how to use a valuable tool So I was right. And they were wrong... right?! ..... ehhh.?The answer is yes, no, with a touch of gray and unicorn purple. Meaning it's not so simple. Because one night I was out on a first date with this beautiful girl who I had been flirting with and when the check came there was a momentary pause where I realized I was struggling to calculate tip. And in that moment, I realized that while my parents weren't right they weren't wrong either because basic mental math was very important since a calculator may not always be available (admittedly this was not part of their message, nonetheless a lesson to be extracted) ChatGPT is an insanely powerful tool but an over dependence on it inhibits our ability to use our minds to create original language and understand communication frameworks that directly impact the quality of our AI output. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic are critical to understanding more complex ideas such as prompt engineering. My ultimate point is, don't avoid it, but use it thoughtfully.
