Celebrating another Successful MLK Volunteer Event! This past January 20th, our team came together with over 200 incredible volunteers for a memorable experience of giving back to the community! Whether it was sorting donations, or several scouts and church volunteers lending a hand making signature goodie bags off-site; everyone’s efforts contributed towards making a positive impact. At My Sister Closet’s MLK Day this year, these truly dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers sorted and sized 350 bags of donations, shined shoes, purses, and belts, and cleaned! These volunteers also participated in our hourly bell-ringing ceremony, where everyone gathered to read and hear MLK quotes, and to our inspiring speakers Dr. Gerhard Glomm and John Lewis. Special thanks to our sponsors: Gables Bagels, Pot Belly, Hopscotch Coffee, Monster Digital Marketing, St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Mark & Marie Claire Bowman, Patti & Chuck Russo for providing yummy treats and drinks to sustain our hungry volunteers. Warm thanks to our many volunteers and groups who ventured out in the extreme cold weather to help out, namely Civic Leader Center; Indiana Water Polo Team; The O’Neil Graduate Association; MSIS Program; CIP; IU Rotaract Club; Hudson Plumbing; AWLO; Reble Cat; Forest 2; Sigma Lambda Gamma, and many others! Your support makes it possible for us to continue serving those most vulnerable in our community who are living in poverty and moving past difficult circumstances such as homelessness, recent incarceration, substance abuse, divorce, and domestic violence! My Sister’s Closet’s services help make it possible for the women we serve to move forward and to provide brighter futures for their children.
