A Horizon EU funded project developing and implementing a digital solution to patient-centred cancer care

关于我们

Research shows that standard oncology care can significantly benefit from greater active involvement of cancer patients in decisions about their own care, an approach known as patient-centred care. However, due to a lack of implementation methods, patient-centred care has not been integrated into clinical routine to this day. Funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme (grant no. 101057514), the MyPath research project will develop a novel digital solution, MyPath, consisting of electronic patient-centred care pathways – custom-made for each individual patient, including real-time communication of symptoms and care preferences. The solution will be implemented systematically in cancer care by investigating, improving, and adapting to organisational contexts of cancer centres across Europe. By doing so, MyPath will translate the proven concept of patient-centred care into an integrated practical reality in oncology. The ambition of MyPath is to establish integrated and efficient patient-centred care that is respectful of, and responsive to, individual patient preferences, needs, and values. MyPath is funded by the European Union (grant no. 101057514) and supported by Innovate UK and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HADEA). ??Today, on World Cancer Research Day, we want to highlight our contribution by sharing progress in the MyPath_EU project. ??The MyPath PROMs app is a new tool designed to help cancer patients communicate more effectively with their healthcare professionals, bringing the patient’s own voice more clearly into the process. Before each appointment, patients answer questions about their wellbeing and symptoms using a smartphone, computer, or tablet. ??This information helps healthcare staff prepare for consultations and track the patient’s progress, placing the patient at the centre of care planning. The app’s questions support evidence-based decision support, offering clinicians valuable and time-saving insights before the appointment. ??This allows clinicians to spend more time actively engaging with the patient during the consultation, discussing reported health concerns and collaboratively planning the path forward. #WCRD #MyPath #PatientCentredCare

On #WorldCancerResearchDay, the spotlight falls on innovations that put the needs and values of cancer patients at the core of their care journey. One such groundbreaking initiative is the EU-funded?#MyPath project, which aims to revolutionise cancer care by integrating patient-centred approaches into routine clinical practice. Currently, cancer treatment in Europe primarily focuses on addressing the tumour itself. However, the ideal care plan for a patient depends on various factors, extending beyond purely medical considerations. Research has consistently shown that adopting a patient-centred care model, which involves patients in decisions about their treatment, significantly enhances the quality of care. Despite the proven benefits, this approach has not been widely implemented in oncology. MyPath’s Vision: Putting Patients First MyPath is a five-year, multi-stakeholder research project dedicated to bringing patient-centred care to the forefront of cancer treatment. The project aims to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice by developing?digital patient-centred care pathways (PCCPs). These innovative, tailored care plans are designed to take into account not only clinical data, such as the stage of disease and treatment objectives, but also the personal needs, preferences, and values of the patient. Cancer affects patients in complex ways, impacting their physical health, psychological well-being, social interactions, and existential outlook. A truly holistic approach to care must account for these dimensions at every stage—whether during rehabilitation, long-term survivorship, or end-of-life care. Research shows that patient-centred care can improve not only physical and mental health outcomes but also enhance overall survival. Despite this, practical implementation in everyday clinical settings remains limited, and MyPath seeks to address this gap. A Global Effort on World Cancer Research Day As we observe?World Cancer Research Day, the MyPath project highlights the importance of placing patients at the heart of cancer care. By integrating their needs, preferences, and values into treatment decisions, MyPath aims to provide personalised, compassionate, and effective care for every cancer patient. https://lnkd.in/eT22xxV8 Stay up to date with the project at?mypath-cancercare.eu #WCRD

Significant milestone reached within the MyPath_EU project! MyPath has attained a significant milestone in its endeavor to enhance cancer care. This pioneering project, dedicated to crafting innovative digital Patient-Centered Care Pathways (#PCCPs), has successfully delivered its first "proof-of-concept" solution to project partners this February. ? The overarching goal of the MyPath project is to advance patient outcomes and clinical efficacy through the implementation of standardised, patient-centered care in accordance with established protocols. The unveiling of the proof-of-concept solution marks a pivotal stride towards realising this vision. In the months ahead, the solution will undergo further refinement through collaborative co-creation workshops involving clinicians and researchers. These sessions will leverage insights and findings from the first year of project activities, facilitating continuous enhancement. ? Additionally, the project will gradually roll out the MyPath digital solution across nine cancer centers throughout Europe, slated to commence this autumn. Our aspiration is to translate the validated concept of patient-centered care into tangible, integrated practice within the oncology domain. ? The MyPath digital solution is a set of applications that help healthcare providers improve their services. It allows patient-reported symptoms to be integrated into hospital systems, which can then be used for coordinating activities and as a basis for guided consultations. It also provides clinical suggestions for linked management and follow-up. Find out more on https://lnkd.in/ejQip_uX
