0.60% for the kids? ? $6,000 of every $1,000,000 invested? ? As published this week in?BMJ Surgery, Interventions, and Health Technologies, it's well known that "the development of medical technology for pediatric medical conditions has historically lagged behind innovation for adult-focused technologies." The article is one of the first to highlight the unfortunate quantification and showed that only 0.60% of Seed funding for US-based companies over the period studied was dedicated to pediatric health technology, defined as "solutions to conditions that are experienced by children under the age of 21." For reference, the US population 21 and under is about 25% of the population.? ? Think about that again. 0.60% for the kids. $6,000 of every $1,000,000 invested. We were pleased to present data in the Scientific Session at the Global Specialty Lens Symposium, today in Las Vegas. Dr. Thomas Raasch highlighted results from our pediatric fitting study, which showed the novel Myoptechs lens, designed to slow the progression of myopia, demonstrated good fit, objective and subjective quality of vision, and comfort across several fitting parameters. Additionally, there were no significant differences or changes in best-corrected visual acuity from baseline. Congratulations Thomas Raasch, Ashley Tucker, OD, FAAO, FSLS, ABO Diplomate, and Zac Holland for this recognition!
