A new series "Anatomy of a Scam" from the Federal Trade Commission. Great information. It's so important to stay informed about the latest ways these crimes are committed. The more we know, the better we can protect ourselves and each other. "The scams usually involve someone?supposedly?spotting fraud or criminal activity on one of your accounts, offering to help “protect” your money, sometimes asking you to share verification codes, and always telling you to move money from your bank, investment, or retirement account. Social isolation and loneliness often make people much more vulnerable and it can be hard to know the intentions of new-found friends. Isolation coupled with even mild cognitive decline can create increased risk for fraud. "According to Dr Mark Lachs, of Weill Cornell Medicine and his colleague, Dr Jason Karlawish, from the Penn Memory Centre, financial capacity can be one of the first things to decline when the brain is damaged through disease or age."
