Thrilled to see this incredible group recognized! Programs like these show that Maine remains a great option for continuing education and opening doors to well-paying, rewarding careers.
Dan Belyea, our Chief Workforce Development Officer, was honored to be invited to the White House for the Raise the Bar Conference, led by the U.S. Department of Education. This event brought together education and industry leaders to discuss the future of our workforce, including building career pathways that lead directly from education to meaningful employment. With discussions focused on strengthening place-based partnerships, advancing work-based learning, and expanding access to high-quality credentials, the conference highlighted critical ways community colleges can lead the way in transforming education and aligning it with workforce needs. At the Maine Community College System, we are committed to making higher education and training accessible, inclusive, and directly connected to the job market. This event is a powerful reminder of the role community colleges play in skilling individuals from all backgrounds to access high-wage, in-demand careers that drive upward mobility and economic growth. #RaisetheBar #UnlockingCareerSuccess #communitycollege #workforcetraining

We are proud to have been part of this important conversation.?Maine's My Alfond Grant program continues to lead the way in demonstrating the positive difference that early investment makes for children!
I came to The Aspen Institute nearly six years ago for days like this. On Monday, in partnership with Invest America and BlackRock, the The Aspen Institute Financial Security Program strategically convened a bipartisan discussion about the idea of providing universal #investment accounts seeded with at least $1000 to every baby in America. Why? ?? So that everyone has an #ownership stake in our economy, and gets to share in America's upside via our world-leading #capitalmarkets. ?? So that we can arrest and reverse the #wealthinequality that is undermining our society. ?? So that #wealth building can become a cornerstone of the shared American experience. Renowned economists Robert Shapiro and Kevin Hassett made their cases (one Democrat, one Republican) for this idea, previewing forthcoming research they've conducted at the Milken Institute. Michael Sherraden at Washington University in St. Louis and Colleen Quint from the Alfond Scholarship Foundation shared lessons from real, scale programs and experiments in Oklahoma and Maine. And in an off-the-record conversation, Senate staffers -- two Republicans, two Democrats -- Michael Sinacore, Joshua Grant, Corey Husak, and Melissa Sanchez revealed how much commitment there is to building household wealth, on both sides of the aisle, and how much openness there is to working together on a big idea like this. My big takeaway: we are entering a critical window of opportunity to make these ideas real. Regardless of November's election outcome, 2025 will be a big year of negotiation on tax policy. Senator Cory Booker and Senator Robert P. Casey, Jr. have both led on this idea and have introduced legislation with shared aspirations, using slightly different mechanisms. And the "big tent" of leaders who support early wealth building accounts is on the verge of political diversification. Now, it's up to us to make sure the tent is big enough and durable enough to hold all of these leaders, support and sustain their energy, and help focus their efforts on the most important design principles and choices that can help deliver real #financialsecurity to America's next generation. After Monday, it feels more than possible. Ray Boshara Ida Rademacher Jason E.
