  • Happy Wednesday! ?? On today's episode of After Hours, we sit down with Laban-Cliff Onserio, Africa's Regional Director at The Chief of Staff Association, to unpack his remarkable career journey; from General Electric to CNBC Africa, Nation Media Group, and even government service in the Office of the President. Born and raised in Nakuru, Laban shares how his humble beginnings ignited his "fire in the belly" mindset, shaping his approach to career growth. He takes us through his "career lattice" strategy, where instead of following a linear path, he has strategically connected seemingly unrelated experiences to build a powerful and diverse professional narrative. From his time in media to leading in corporate and government spaces. Laban highlights the importance of strategic communication, operations, and initiatives, the three core pillars of a Chief of Staff’s role. For founders and executives, this episode sheds light on why a Chief of Staff is a game-changer for scaling businesses. Laban breaks down how this position can drive focus, enhance decision-making, and enable leaders to prioritize high-impact strategies while keeping operations seamless. Beyond his professional expertise, Laban’s story is a lesson in adaptability, risk-taking, and relentless pursuit of growth. He leaves us with invaluable advice: be highly organized, communicate effectively, embrace calculated risks, and keep a 360-degree view of global trends to stay competitive. ?And if you didn’t know, he's also a rally co-driver, proving that passion and professional success can go hand in hand. Building the future of the web at Honeycoin Inc.

In this episode, I learned that explaining why Nvidia is still valuable after Deep Seek's release to Evans Kanyithia Munene is like explaining why pineapple belongs on pizza... Controversial, passionate, and somehow we dragged Africa Tech Summit and EV's into it ?? The resulting conversation was... interesting to say the least ??...Go give it a listen! Massive props to My Tech Story Africa and Alice Kanjejo for always holding us down ?? https://lnkd.in/dgrvUDDf

While legacy automakers struggle to keep up, these new entrants are redefining what’s possible in the industry. One of the most fascinating insights? Africa’s growing role in the EV movement. Ethiopia is leading the charge with a pioneering supercharger network, signaling the continent’s readiness to embrace the electric future. But that’s not all, we also explore the rapid pace of EV innovation, from Tesla’s humble beginnings with an 80km-range Roadster to today’s 600km-range Model S, all within a decade! Meanwhile, new technologies like battery swapping are addressing key concerns around battery life and resale value, potentially changing the game for EV adoption. It’s clear that we are witnessing a fundamental shift in the automotive industry, one where EV-focused brands are outpacing traditional giants, reshaping consumer preferences, and accelerating the move toward a cleaner, more efficient future. ???? The tech landscape never stands still, and neither do we. After months of deep dives and thought-provoking discussions on My Tech Story Africa, we’re evolving. Welcome to Admin Access, where regular “AA meetings” bring you an unfiltered look at the shifts, trends, and disruptions shaping the tech ecosystem. In this episode, Evans Kanyithia Munene and Dominic Mulinda break down a game-changer in AI: Deep Seek’s entrance into the scene. The AI industry is feeling the tremors with an open-source model achieving breakthrough results at a fraction of traditional training costs. Some see this as a signal that companies like Nvidia may be overvalued, but the reality is more complex. AI demand isn’t shrinking, it’s just spreading across a wider playing field. The conversation then takes a sharp turn into Africa’s fintech explosion. Are there too many fintech startups? Or is this exactly what innovation looks like in a fragmented market with diverse financial needs? The hosts argue that rather than oversaturation, this abundance reflects a thriving ecosystem tackling real-world challenges. Africa doesn’t need a one-size-fits-all solution, it needs many solutions, working together to build a stronger financial future. And of course, no tech discussion is complete without bold predictions. This time, the spotlight is on electric vehicles. Will Africa be slow to adopt, or are we underestimating the pace of change? The hosts dissect the strategic moves of automotive giants, from Jaguar’s all-electric shift to the undeniable link between Tesla’s valuation and Elon Musk’s brand. Founder @MyTechStoryAfrica | Marketing & PR | Tech enthusiast | Podcast Host

My goodbye dinner was a perfect ending to an unforgettable chapter in my career ?? Ironically, this was my third (or fourth) farewell with the HoneyCoin team—each one a reminder of the love and growth I’ve experienced as PR & Content Lead over the past 3+ years. Building a startup is no easy feat. When I joined, there was no social media presence, no marketing team (aside from my Partnerships colleague), and no product in the market. My job was to build it all from the ground up. And I did. Overtime, I built and led a strong content team across Kenya and Nigeria, launched successful (and not-so-successful) campaigns, forged valuable partnerships, and worked with top media houses. From zero users to a platform of over 200,000 - I couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with technology—not just using it, but understanding its power and impact. Watching David N. build his startup and engaging with founders and investors, I found myself asking: "What if...I'm the solution I've been waiting for?" That question led me to My Tech Story Africa, which started as a podcast and is now the reason I left my job. I want to bridge the gap in tech education, highlight Africa’s boldest innovators, and improve digital adoption. To do this, My Tech Story Africa is evolving into a network of tech-focused media products featuring voices beyond my own ?? Beyond storytelling, we’re also on the ground—offering consultancy services with top-tier Marketers and Communication Specialists to help startups and tech companies achieve their goals, whether in acquisition, strategy, campaign management, or content curation - we've got you covered.? My mission is not just sharing tech stories, but helping tech businesses grow through great marketing and powerful narratives. To the HoneyCoin team—thank you for the opportunity to make an impact in fintech. Though stepping into the unknown is scary, I know I’m exactly where I need to be. Check out My Tech Story Africa’s new website, built in partnership with Rvysion - they did a phenomenal job ???? https://www.mtsafrica.co/ Excited for what’s ahead - any tips? ?? Let’s connect!

Angela takes us through her background in financial engineering, her years in government, and her extensive experiences in investments, audit, and agriculture. The conversation takes a fascinating turn as Angela reveals her brave decision to take a career break for motherhood—shattering the age-old belief that women must “have it all” at once. She talks passionately about the importance of self-compassion and reframing career breaks as not failures but opportunities to grow and find oneself. In a moment of unbridled honesty, Angela shares her own personal struggles, such as a breakdown during her time at Deloitte. She speaks about the transformative power of stillness and meditation within corporate life, delivering a powerful take on the need to humanize ourselves first before we can innovate or lead.
