If 2024 Me had told my 2021 Me that in just a week I would be posting my first ever online course, she would have rolled her eyes at me. Yet, that’s where we are! In just 7 days, on October 16, 2024 at 9:00 AM, the first course of the #SQL and #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass goes live! It is still limited to only 25 learners at a time, but that is only to make sure I have capacity to support them. The final video lectures are currently still being edited, but the final dashboard you will create during the course is posted on my Tableau Public profile, and linked below. This dashboard is the result of completing 14 lessons of technical and education field knowledge acquisition. By the time you reach that point in the course, you will know a LOT of #SQL, #Tableau, and have a new perspective on how #educationdata works! In case you missed it last time, we have the following coupons available: → Coupon #1 (50% off!) MSA50OFF (Quantity: 5) → Coupon #2 (40% off!) MSA40OFF (Quantity: 10) → Coupon #3 (25% off!) MSA20OFF (Quantity:10) Next time you see a post from me, it will be for the course launch day! Hope to see you there! #teachertransition #educationdatanalytics #tableau #studentprofile #studentdata #sql #leavingtheclassroom

2 weeks… 2 WEEKS! After years of sweat, blood and tears (and the occasional long bout of expletives!) I finally get to launch the first course of the #SQL and #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass! On October 16, at 9:00AM, the course will become available for purchase!!! The regular price is $20 per month. Below, however, you will find some coupons and the quantities for each. Please note that this information is also being shared with anyone who has signed up for updates on the website. They are first-come, first-serve! Coupon #1 (50% off!) MSA50OFF (Quantity: 5) Coupon #2 (40% off!) MSA40OFF (Quantity: 10) Coupon #3 (25% off!) MSA20OFF (Quantity:10) And why do we only have 25 coupons? Because only 25 seats will be open for this first group! Yes, the course is self-paced, but as someone who works full-time as an #EducationDataAnalyst, I want to make sure I have time to be available for questions :) The coupons will remain valid once redeemed as long as you have the subscription. If the subscription ends, and you decide to come back later, the coupon will no longer work. Take advantage of them to finish the #SQL and #Tableau for Education Data Analysts Masterclass for pennies per day! One last thing I forgot to mention before: this course is not really state-specific. There are some sections where I reference Texas (because that’s where I learned to be an Education Data Analyst), but I assure you the skills are transferable. How do I know? Check out my LinkedIn profile: I am now an Education Data Analyst serving New Jersey and Florida. I am super excited, and hope you are too! See you again next week! #transitioningteachers #edexit #leavingtheclassroom #educationdataanalytics #education #careerchange #careersforteachers #formerteachers #sqlforteachers #tableauforteachers

“You should charge more!” I’ve heard different variations of this phrase from friends who have tested the course or have sat there with me as I explained my vision of the #SQL and #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass. The Masterclass is only the beginning… or so I hope. Why would my friends say this about the Masterclass? Well, here are some of the things you will gain from the entire platform: A 3-Course, seriously-intense (yet achievable) masterclass to become an #EducationDataAnalyst ready to show off their skills of: --> PK-12 Education --> Text Editors (particularly Notepad++) --> Power Query for Excel --> SQL and SQL Server Management Studio (you learn how to install it!) --> Tableau Public --> A few dashboards you can publish to your Tableau Public profile --> Dashboard Design methods --> Sample Interview Questions --> Sample SQL scripts --> A HUGE workbook you can reference again and again Then, as the platform grows: --> A community of like-minded individuals --> Additional courses to help you grow even more once you get the job --> Sample data files to continue growing your Dashboard portfolio All for, at most, $20 a month (less if you catch one of our coupons!), for as long as it makes sense to you. No long-term contracts. Try it for a month, and if it isn't for you, you only had to invest $20 to cross out #EducationDataAnalyst from your #transitioningteacher career options list. I’ve paid thousands of dollars to learn what I know now. And invested hundreds of hours refining my skills to fit into the education mold (because NONE of the courses I took even considered offering that!) If you like it and set a strict schedule, you can finish the entire Masterclass, once posted, in 3 months (1 month per course). That’s, at most, $60 bucks, for: --> 116 lessons* --> About 42 hours of streamed videos* --> Approximately 160 pages printable workbook* *And that’s just the first course! So, if you want to take the plunge, keep an eye on my post of 10/02/2024. It will have a limited-supply of coupons that you can use to sign up for the #SQL and #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass. Hope to see you again then! #transitioningteachers #edexit #datanalytics #sql #tableau #leavingtheclassroom #teachertransition #careersforteachers

When I was deciding on how to structure each chapter of the #SQL & #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass, I kept trying to be aligned with how other coding courses set up their curriculum. However, I kept getting stuck trying to conform to them. This happened to take place in tandem with me coming to the realization that perhaps I was #ND- so I took a step back to process this. I also took a few weeks off from trying to push through with a course curriculum structure that just didn’t want to fit. As I learned more about #ND, I was forced to reflect on my entire existence, particularly the way I'd survived my schooling years. To the outside, I was the Teacher’s Pet. Inside, I was drowning. Everyone only saw the responsibilities being fulfilled. They didn’t see the desperate efforts to meet expectations that were slowly cementing what is known as the #neurodivergentmask. At the start of my acceptance of being #ND I had an epiphany about the curriculum for the Masterclass. I was, yet again, trying to fit into already established structures when what I was building was the opposite! I was again trying to fit the neurotypical norm, and my brain was fighting against it. This time, armed with new knowledge about neurodivergence, I listened. Shortly after, the curriculum structure for the Masterclass was born: --> The Theory -->The Data-Driven Decisions -->The Practice -->The Tech Part -->The Recap -->The Knowledge Check -->The Project(s) Seven is a lucky number after all, right? In this masterclass, you’re taken on a journey through the domains I listed in a previous post by hanging at each and every single one of these stops (the lesson types listed above), and “loitering” there as long as it makes sense to you. You’re given the background of the domain via The Theory. Then, you're slowly introduced to SQL via the analysis of the sample data for said domain in Data-Driven Decisions. After that, the Theory and The Data-Driven Decisions lessons is further aligned in The Practice while adding even more relevant SQL. By the time you reach The Tech Part, you’re given hints and support to create one data source that you’ll use later to create your very first Tableau report. The Recap lays out for you what was covered, and then you get to internalize it further in The Knowledge Check. Then, like any good finale, you build the Tableau dashboard piece that aligns with the domain covered. And then, you get to do it all over again for the next domain. Instead of taking 1 course for SQL, 1 course for education field knowledge, 1 course for Power Query in Excel, and 1 course for Tableau, you get all of it, at the same time, in the same place, in context, building on knowledge of education that you already have. If you want to see more, I’ve made the beginning lessons of the course available for free! Stop by. See if it inspires you to want to learn more. And if it does, I’ll see you in October. Hope to see you again next week!

In my opinion, the biggest lie I’ve heard about teachers is that stupid phrase of “Those who can, do. Those who cannot, teach.” ?? When hearing this phrase, I can’t help but to channel my inner Rachel Greene from Friends: “I went to the zoo yesterday. Now, I'm a koala bear!” because most individuals who use this phrase think they understand teaching because they were students themselves or volunteer every now and then. What a silly perspective! And it is this perspective that makes a lot of teachers think they cannot build a successful career outside their classrooms. But they absolutely can! The reality is that most educators don’t want to leave the classroom. I sure as heck didn’t. However, also most of the time, we are left with no other choice. I too left education for a bit, but I wanted to come back. Yet, I knew the classroom was too much for me (just keeping it real!). I knew I wanted to help shape the next generation, but I was unaware at the time of how my neurodivergent mind would fight me every step of the way until my body said: “No more! To the ER with you!” #iykyk Being a teacher is not for anyone and everyone. I admire those who have been there for decades and persist! Much love to y’all! But for those of us who still want to help the kids, but need to do so from a different angle, #DataAnalytics might be an option! When I was in college, #DataAnalytics wasn’t even a thing. Most #DataAnalysts I know were already deep in their field, stumbled across a spreadsheet, got curious about automating their work, blinked, and then they were #DataAnalysts. My story is no different. Because of this, I firmly believe the best #EducationDataAnalysts are people in education themselves… especially teachers! We already have the field knowledge… we just need to learn the technical piece. This is where the #SQL and #Tableau for #EducationDataAnalysts Masterclass comes into play. I designed it with the education field in mind. I talk about enrollment, demographics, special education, emergent bilingual education, master schedules, grades, transcripts, and more! We use these familiar terms to understand #SQL and #Tableau. I replicate what we do for the kids in the classroom every day: activate prior knowledge to build new knowledge. We know this method works… Why not use it for yourself? We are still on track to launch in mid-to-late October. Go to the site to sign up for the waitlist and learn more about the masterclass. Hope to see you again next week!

One of the greatest challenges when designing the #SQL and #Tableau for #Education #DataAnalysts Masterclass was the bane of any data person’s existence: creating fake data! Ask any Education #Data Analyst and they will tell you the same as I am telling you right now: creating fake data to build reports is soul-sucking! The thing is, you can Google your way to finding sample data for almost anything else. You can find decades of stock market info, sample sales data for fictional stores, sports statistics, and more. However, basic school data that remotely resembles the real challenges of the data analyst in a school setting was a no-go for me. I’ve used several Student Information Systems, so I knew what I was looking for, but none of the sample data sources I encountered back in 2021 made me want to build dashboards with fake data. So, what do you do when you can’t find what you need? You build it yourself! One of the perks of completing the #SQL and #Tableau for Education Data Analysts Masterclass is that you get to keep all of the databases I created for the courses. Meaning, you can continue to use them to build your online portfolio of education-centered dashboards (with proper credit, of course!) for interviews and for practice. Not to mention, as time permits, there will be more and more sample datasets that anyone can leverage to build prototypes in this role. There is nothing more frustrating during the new report building process than to try to build something amazing with data that doesn't even exist yet. Let’s face it, though, that is how it is sometimes! If you are a transitioning teacher and this #DataAnalyst path interests you, I hope you sign up for our updates. One of the biggest fears I had when deciding to transition out of the classroom was believing I knew what other career I would like to do but then finding out I didn’t enjoy it once I got it, and once I had invested time and money to get it. Access to the #SQL and #Tableau for Education Data Analysts Masterclass will only be $20 a month - or much less if you are lucky and catch one of the limited coupons we will have! Sampling a career for as low as $10 a month, if you catch that coupon, sounds pretty low-risk to me! We are still on track to launch in mid-to-late October, so you have time to think it over! Hope to see you again next week! #edxit #datanalyst #transitioningteacher #teacher #sql #tableau #educationdata #leavingtheclassroom
