In 2025, teachers are still the primary providers of tutoring for their students, even as their workloads keep expanding. This is not a long-term solution. We know tutoring is one of the most effective academic resources. But if districts continue to rely solely on already-overextended educators to deliver it, they risk burnout, & students still don’t get what they need to succeed. #Students #Tutoring #TeacherSupport #EdWeek ?? https://lnkd.in/gR-D5GjK

CEO + Founder @ My Private Professor: we help employers provide a meaningful benefit to employees & families | Founder @ My Private Professor Foundation: we provide free tutoring to students experiencing homelessness

Sadly, it was not shocking to learn that a whopping 27 students who attend a well-regarded public middle school in our community are identified as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Based on our experience of providing over 900 hours of tutoring to students experiencing homelessness through My Private Professor, LLC (before My Private Professor Foundation was created as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit), we quickly learned that one of the key barriers to entry is finding a way to get students to show up to their sessions each week. Why? We have Maslow's hierarchy of needs to thank for that. Because as important as tutoring is in - improving students’ academic performance, - completing high school, and - increasing their future earning potential, it's a no-brainer that tutoring takes a back seat when basic needs of - where you will sleep tonight, - when you will get your next meal, and - whether you are feeling safe are not met. That's why we’ve historically worked with nonprofits who provide shelter and other critical resources to families and youth experiencing homelessness. By doing so, - we are able to provide consistent tutoring each week - to students who are in safe housing and - have access to food and other essentials to meet their fundamental needs. So working with a school to provide tutoring to students experiencing homelessness is a new initiative for us, because the most of the students we will be supporting do not reside in a shelter and many of their basic needs may not be met.? But where there's a will, there's a way. :) Thanks to the passion and determination of the school’s principal and counselors, and with the enthusiasm expressed by many students and families for tutoring despite their circumstances, we got creative and built a plan that we hope will ensure that these students get the consistent academic support they so deserve. Will keep y'all posted on our journey to amplify access & uplift potential. Sending love! #amplifyaccess #upliftpotential #students #education #community #impact #tutoring

Helping parents get time back | CEO at Sundays

Nearly 50% of families have two full-time working parents. What does this mean? 50% of families are dealing with: → The school day not matching up with the work day → Finding before school care and after school care → Transportation between the two → And to any extracurriculars → Not being able to participate in parent-teacher associations and other groups that determine what support for families look like (because they often take place during the worday) Our systems treat working parenthood like an anomaly. It’s the reality for almost half of families. Let’s start planning for it that way. — I’m Ashley Chang, co-founder of Sundays, an executive assistant service for working parents. We help parents get focused time back at work and quality time back with family.

  • ?? A recent report reveals that more than 60% of employees do not consider their current employer to be family-friendly. This is a significant increase from just one year prior, when only 40% held the same view. ?? Why do companies ignore parents of school-aged kids? As working parents, we hear a lot about parental leave and childcare benefits. But what happens when our kids grow up? The reality is, parenting doesn’t get easier—it just changes. Managing school schedules, extracurriculars, academic pressures, mental health concerns, and college planning is a lot. And yet, most companies act like our challenges disappear once our kids start kindergarten. Research confirms that workplace policies overwhelmingly focus on early parenthood, leaving parents of school-aged children and teenagers with little to no meaningful support. Flexible work arrangements? Necessary, but not enough. Stigma around asking for help? Still very real. And while some companies are stepping up with tutoring stipends, financial literacy programs, and counseling services, most still lag behind. I recently wrote about this issue for Forbes, highlighting expert insights from Tara Elwell Henning, founder of Superkin, who works with companies to implement real, actionable support for working parents—because let’s be honest, we’re not going anywhere, and neither are our responsibilities. The big takeaway? Family-friendly policies shouldn’t stop at parental leave. If companies want to retain top talent, they need to recognize that parenting is a career-long responsibility, not just a phase. #workingparents #caregiving #careerequity #worklifebalance

  • New research has given us a data-rich deep dive on the struggle faced by students to catch up with their reading & math scores, almost two years after the official end to the global pandemic. (National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)) ???? Nearly half a grade behind compared to before COVID, students need support getting back on track. ?? #Tutoring could be the game-changer. ?? As per the Education Recovery Scorecard, "student achievement grew more in districts that spent more on academic interventions, such as tutoring or summer school." While we applaud the resilience of school districts that are beating the odds, it's clear that to bridge the learning gap, we need to focus more resources on academic recovery initiatives.
