Buon Compleanno, Italia! Happy 164th Birthday to Italy! ???? On This Day in History: Italy Becomes a Unified Kingdom! ???? On March 17, 1861, Italy officially became a unified kingdom, marking the culmination of the Risorgimento—a powerful 19th-century movement for Italian nationhood. This movement brought together various independent states, city-states, and kingdoms across the Italian Peninsula, ultimately uniting them under King Victor Emmanuel II of Sardinia. The unification wasn't just political; it was a triumph of cultural and national identity, fueled by key figures like Giuseppe Garibaldi, Count Cavour and Giuseppe Mazzini. Through diplomacy, warfare and the will of the Italian people, the fragmented states were brought together to form the modern nation of Italy. Today, Italians celebrate their unity and rich history, honoring the journey that shaped their country. #ItalyUnification #ItalyBirthday #Italy #Italian?

?? On This Day: Emilio Lunghi, Italy’s First Olympic Medalist ???? Born in Genoa on this day in 1886, Emilio Lunghi made history as the first athlete to win an Olympic medal for Italy, earning silver in the 800m at the 1908 London Games. A versatile and dominant runner, he was a nine-time national champion across multiple distances and set world records in North America. Despite missing out on a second Olympic medal, Lunghi’s impact on Italian athletics was immense. After retiring, he championed workers' rights and later served as an official at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Sadly, he passed away at just 39 years old in 1925. • On This Day in 1975: Italy Lowers the Age of Majority ???? Did you know? On this day in 1975, Italy changed its age of majority from 21 to 18! Before this, Italians under 21 were legally considered minors, meaning they couldn’t act independently of their parents. This change also impacts Jure Sanguinis (Italian citizenship by descent) cases! Since minors have different legal protections, whether an ancestor was under 21 or over 18 at key moments in history could affect citizenship eligibility. Want to see if you are eligible for Italian citizenship by descent? Set up a free consultation with My Italian Family today at: https://lnkd.in/eEBj8-9J #Italian #Italy #ItalianDualCitizenship #JureSanguinis #ItalianAmerican

  • ?? Happy Birthday, Amerigo Vespucci! ?? On March 9, 1454, Amerigo Vespucci was born in Florence, Italy. His voyages across the Atlantic helped shape our understanding of the New World—so much so that his name inspired the name "America"! ?????? Unlike Columbus, who believed he had reached Asia, Vespucci realized that the lands he explored were a completely separate continent. His letters and maps changed the course of history, leading to the recognition of North and South America as new lands apart from Europe and Asia. Fun Fact: The name "America" first appeared on a map in 1507, when German cartographer Martin Waldseemüller labeled the newly identified continent in Vespucci’s honor! #AmerigoVespucci #Italy #Italian #America #History
