No one ever deserves to go hungry – especially not on a holiday as focused on food and family as Thanksgiving. Many local food banks offer free Thanksgiving meals for people without the means to make or buy one themselves. Feeding America has more information on its website, including a search tool to locate your local food bank(s). We recommend everyone check it out and let anyone in need know that there are resources available for them. https://lnkd.in/ghKYbPUA

“Going to My Hope For Tomorrow was the best decision my fiance and I have made. They treat you like family and teach you the tools you need to stay clean. Food is amazing and it feels like home. Please if you're struggling and are looking for a way out this is it. Take that leap. Michelle the director is an amazing soul inside those buildings and outside of them. She takes such good care of her people, treats you like a human. Your feelings matter. The staff is just amazing.” – Nicole Reviews like this are extra reminders to us of why we love what we do. We strive to provide a warm and welcoming environment to our patients –? hearing that we’re succeeding means the world to us. It inspires us to work even harder and continue to be a temporary family for everyone who trusts us with their care.

There’s a lot out there about what NOT to do when your loved one is actively using substances. This can lead family members to wonder – what CAN they do to help without “enabling” their loved one with a substance use disorder? Here are some things we suggest: – Share resources and treatment options with them – Offer to take them to therapy sessions and/or accompany them to appointments – Let them know you’re there to listen, and make sure to listen without judgment – Ask them to do things with you, like healthy hobbies or exercise – Help them clean now and then, but make sure they actively participate in the process – Teach them quick and easy recipes for when they want to eat healthy but aren’t feeling well – Learn more about addiction and always strive for a deeper understanding of your loved one’s situation – Join support groups for family members of people with substance use disorders and/or seek mental health care for yourself, too

Did you know studies show when families are involved in the recovery process, people are less likely to be hospitalized or incarcerated and more likely to stick to treatment and achieve lasting recovery? With the holiday season rapidly approaching, we’ll be covering family dynamics in recovery for the entirety of November on Hope for Tomorrow’s social media. Stay tuned!
