My job at My Healthy Home ? always made me feel that I helped to make my client's lives healthier and better. But this client's home made me realize this in a big way! In this scenario, I was asked to help a family uncover a reason for their health complaints in their home for many months. They were unable to diagnose the problem even after seeking medical care and numerous inspectors. What made this story different from any other client was that at this time, I was suffering from severe covid, had no voice, and could barely breathe and function with 102 fever. I almost put the client on hold, but something in my gut told me to get this project done regardless of my personal pain. I forced myself to utilize all my resources to help this Wyoming family perform my testing and product installation so I could get the info needed to diagnose the home. Thank you to all those human angels along the way for translating and being my voice when I couldn't speak a word ( no voice 5 weeks )to help facilitate my direction and thoughts when I could not even get a word out.... I'm grateful my fortitude to help was still there, even at my lowest point. After ruiling out many potential problems, I was able to diagnose and detect a very low level of carbon monoxide .1 to 1ppm. That finding led me to search and determine two cracked heat exchangers in a high efficiency furnace. This family of 4 could have died at any time, and if I hadn't preserveered and listened to an inner voice (god is what I call it), this whole scenario could have been very different. It was also determined that they did not have a proper functioning CO detector. It's important to have a carbon monoxide detector but realize that box store detectors are set to go off at high levels (alarms) and leave low level detection unmonitored. Low levels of carbon monoxide can cause chronic health issues and can easily become severe and dangerous. High efficiency furnaces though designed to save energy have primary and secondary heat exchangers, this process makes these units, by design, very susceptible to carbon monoxide leaks that can often go undetected by monitors that only look for high level CO.
