California signed into law Assembly Bill 1575, Katie Meyer's Law. It stems from advocacy from Katie's Save, https://lnkd.in/gDvvwBw3 which was founded by Steven and Gina Meyer after their daughter, who was a team captain and national championship winning goalie for the Stanford Women's soccer team committed suicide after being informed that she was facing potential disciplinary charges and that "her degree was going to be placed on hold less than four months from graduation and the charge could result in her removal from the university." The law states schools must "adopt a policy permitting a student to be assisted by an adviser if the student receives a notification of an alleged violation of ... a student code of conduct." From tragedy, this silver lining emerges, in the form of Katie's Law providing supports for students in a time of need. Nothing can bring the Meyer's daughter back, but they used their grief to catalyze advocacy and help others. This should be more than a state law, this deserves federal protections. #KatiesSaves #KatieMeyersLaw #MentalHealth #MentalHealthForAll https://lnkd.in/g7YmXezm
