?? We went “Off-Mute” for this year’s ADCOLOR Conference and Awards where marketers, brand executives and creatives gathered to exchange ideas and explore the future of diversity and inclusion. The energy in the building was palpable and inspiring as we heard from some of the very best in the industry today. Thank you to Tiffany R. Warren and the entire Adcolor team, the care and attention behind every detail of the event to ensure everyone felt welcomed and seen was appreciated and noticed. ??Some key takeaways: - Universal storytelling is a hit for a reason, but “specificity” is a way forward that champions diversity in story and background to change the way people think. - It is not enough to “be in the room,” we must also be accountable and speak up when something doesn’t feel right. - Cultural currency is something we can feel but if we can find a way to get businesses and brands to understand it better that will be the real gamechanger. - The language of action is more important than language itself because how we live as a culture comes before language. - When inclusivity is treated as a word and not the work it is a red flag. Brands should see inclusivity as an opportunity and business imperative for future-proofing your business. - In the current climate it’s critical now more than ever to champion diversity and inclusion and take action beyond intention to make real change in how we are represented.
