Together, they focus on evaluating new bridge components and designs—like alternatives to traditional timber bridge ties—while also enhancing fitness-for-service evaluations to extend the lifespan of existing structures. ??? Railroad bridges are the oldest infrastructure in the rail industry (other than the ground beneath them!) and are among the most valuable assets on a per-track-foot basis. The SRI bridge research helps railroads strategically prioritize capital and maintenance investments, ensuring safe, reliable train passage. ???? Their work contributes to industry-wide guidelines on bridge design and condition assessments, helping railroads extend the service life of their bridges. This research also explores cutting-edge materials and methods to boost safety and efficiency in railroad bridge operations.
