Thank you David Kountz, MD, MBA, MACP for your great work as meeting chairman! Allowing us to move through so many amazing presentations and have thought provoking discussions
An outstanding meeting of the Steering Committee of the National Minority Health Alliance/Make Well Known Foundation took place in September. We are committed to addressing underrepresented and underserved populations, particularly in cardiovascular disease, oncology, and diabetes, where these groups face healthcare disadvantages. Current key priorities include enhancing access and awareness of subgroup data, promoting diversity in clinical trials, and improving access to care and guideline-directed treatment. From our multi-city Community Health Builders Program to engagement in the White House Challenge to End Hunger and Build Healthy Communities, all our work is viewed through the lenses of genetics, culture, and the social determinants of health. By analyzing how these factors influence each other on a macro level as demographic boundaries blur, our aim is to enhance health outcomes for all. Our group includes representatives from academia, government, payers, industry, hospitals and health systems, philanthropy and the communities we serve. Shout-out to one of my co-chairs Fatima Rodriguez, MD, MPH and Steering Committee members Corey B. Coleman, Setu Vora, Susan Cantrell, Sharon Moffatt, Sarah Lincoln, M.S., Celina Gorre, and Hilly Paige. Make Well Known Foundation #SDOH #clinicalresearch #foodinsecurity

"Most fundamental to successful community–academic relationships is the understanding that research is conducted with (rather than for) community members. Effective community-engaged research partnerships require acknowledging and shifting current power dynamics to foster open dialogue, trust, and authentic engagement in this work." https://buff.ly/4cQ9cjT
