As we approach our 40th anniversary, we are looking toward a bright future within the dynamic and constantly evolving building design industry. We are committed to achieving our goals as a business while supporting our clients, trade partners, projects, and our community.?We are focused on advancing project delivery methods, supporting decarbonization, reducing consumption of natural resources and incorporating diverse perspectives into our industry, all while leveraging the vast engineering expertise that MW brings to the table. With nearly 150 years of combined collaboration between the current Principals, leadership transitions under our belts, and a deep bench of experience on our staff, MW is primed and ready for what the future holds. Our focus has always been and will remain to exceed expectations and to provide the best possible and most appropriate engineering design solutions to meet each client’s unique needs. We love where we live, work, and play. We remain committed to the success of our clients, partners, and employees, as well as that of Spokane and the communities that we serve.

MW collaborated with INTEGRUS and Bouten Construction Company to design the Paccar Engineering Center at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. This 21,500-square-foot facility will feature ISO 7 clean rooms, fabrication shops, laboratory spaces, and general classrooms. The construction of the Engineering Center is expected to take 18 months, with plans for the facility to welcome students by January 2026. The design by MW incorporates a dedicated air handling unit specifically for the clean room. This design helps reduce operational costs by increasing airflow only as needed to maintain ISO 7 particulate levels. Additionally, energy-efficient two-pipe chilled beams paired with an enthalpic heat recovery Dedicated Outside Air System (DOAS) will provide heating, cooling, and ventilation to the other areas of the building.

In October of 1984, Jim Moore and Bob Welt started MW Engineers with the singular goal of taking on projects that gave others pause. Forty years later, we've achieved that goal and grown into one of the leading MEP engineering firms in our region, with projects spanning the globe. WHERE WE ARE Our business and community have changed over the last 40 years, and upon reflection, we see a lot to be excited about. After 40 years in business supporting the growth and development of the Inland Northwest, as well as numerous national and international projects, MW is positioned to continue performing at the high standard we’ve maintained since 1984. We have evolved along with our community, clients, and partners. No longer just a lean, entrepreneurial venture, we are now a seasoned and tested group of professionals. Our stellar roster of partners, engineers, designers, and administrators remains steadfastly committed to seeking out projects with challenges that might give others pause; striving not merely to meet those challenges, but to establish a hallmark of quality and creativity, and demonstrating an unrelenting dedication to our clients and projects by providing unparalleled personalized service. The challenges are changing, and we are too, right along with them. We eagerly look forward to the future with a commitment to those practices which have made us successful.

WHERE WE’VE BEEN As we approach our 40th year in business, we have taken this opportunity to reflect on our history. In 1984, MW Engineers was a lean entrepreneurial venture recently formed by James Moore and Bob Welt to serve the MEP engineering needs of Spokane and the Inland Northwest. One aspect of our focus as a firm then was to “seek out projects with challenges that might give others pause.” At that time, the region had a population of 340,000 people and was just 10 short years removed from Expo ’74. Mining, Healthcare, Business and Professional Services, Trade, Transportation, Utilities, Government, and Education were the predominant industries.? Since then, the region has grown significantly, with the population nearing 600,000 people. As a result, all those industries MW served in 1984 have grown, with others emerging as well. Our support of the region has been unwavering over the last 40 years, and our commitment to our clients and the community remains the same. We were up for a challenge then, and we are up for the challenge today.

Employees at MW Engineers believe in working hard and playing harder. This past weekend, five of our employees successfully completed the Coeur d'Alene 70.3 IRONMAN! Great work, everyone—your hard work and dedication paid off!

MW has been working with the Community Colleges of Spokane for many years and is fortunate to count dozens of projects completed in support of their growth and development. Additionally, we find their graduates to be a high-quality addition to our team. One good example of this is Mason Andersen. He recently joined MW as a full-time BIM Operator after working with us through the cooperative program offered by the college. We are excited for him as he was recently recognized by AIA as the May 2024 Chapter Leader of the Month. Learn more about this award here. MW would like to congratulate Josh Lauderdale, PE, for passing his Professional Engineering exam. MW now has 19 licensed engineers across both primary disciplines.

The Patterson Baseball Complex has recently undergone an impressive addition/expansion in time for baseball season. MW designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural lighting, fire protection, and telecommunications systems for the new addition/expansion. The expansion includes a state-of-the-art locker room, an indoor practice facility, and a hall of fame.
