Delivering science to help fish, wildlife, water, land, and people adapt to a changing climate.
关于我们
The mission of the Midwest Climate Adaptation Science Center (MW CASC) is to deliver science to help wildlife, ecosystems, and people adapt to a changing climate. We conduct and support research to address regional climate issues including: heavy rainfall and drought, loss of winter, altered hydrological regimes, novel terrestrial landscapes, and opportunities for adaptation. We engage the Department of Interior, states, Tribal governments, and other natural and cultural resource managers to ensure information and tools can be applied directly to adaptation decisions in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. The MW CASC is a partnership between the United States Geological Survey and a consortium of research-focused academic, Tribal, and non-profit partners.

A new series of graphics developed by the College of Menominee Nation explores some of the impacts that Menominee people are experiencing as a result of climate change. In this episode, a downy woodpecker and yellow-bellied sapsucker discuss the emerald ash borer, a species moving into the area. Stay tuned for the next episode! https://lnkd.in/gpKeGZt6 Learn about MW CASC research investigating the impacts of Emerald Ash Borer here: https://lnkd.in/gbAC-nS5

You're invited to join us on Monday 2/24 for a conversation on climate change & migratory birds! Note: This seminar will now feature presentations by Olivia LeDee (Midwest CASC) and Jacy Bernath-Plaisted?(Bird Conservancy of the Rockies).
What do we know about climate change impacts on migratory birds -- and how can that knowledge help us understand impacts on other wildlife? We'll explore these questions in our next Science Seminar on February 24! Learn more & register: https://lnkd.in/gXNSuV8v

How do microclimates – specific climates of small areas, influenced by variations in vegetation and topography – shape how vulnerable grassland songbirds are to climate change? Dr. Jacy Bernath-Plaisted of the University of Wisconsin-Madison explored this question as a MW CASC Graduate Fellow. Reminder: this is coming up on Monday 1/27! We hope you'll join us for this conversation about how climate change is impacting heritage resources. https://lnkd.in/gY2AnbpX
How will climate change impact heritage resources, such as Indigenous ancestral sites and historic districts? What role can climate adaptation play to help protect these resources? Join our January 27 Science Seminar to learn from Dr. Michael Aiuvalasit?of the Illinois State Archaeological Survey. Aiuvalasit will present findings from a newly published report on the impacts of climate change to heritage resources in Illinois. Register: https://lnkd.in/gY2AnbpX
