We're thrilled to share that Martha's Vineyard Hospital has been named one of Boston Globe Media Magazine's Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts for 2024! This recognition highlights the exceptional leadership of our President Denise Schepici. With more than 30 years of healthcare experience, Denise has driven initiatives that enhance primary care, expand mental health services and support underserved communities in areas like homelessness, food equity and substance use disorder. Under her leadership, the hospital has also earned national recognition, including the 2022 Best Hospitals Women’s Choice Awards.

Recently, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Mass General Hospital Institute of Health Professions earned national recognition at the National League for Nursing Education Summit in San Antonio, Texas, for their innovative Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) pilot program. Meet Anna Flaherty, a Northeastern University nursing student who’s completing her final clinical rotation at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital – the same place where she was born and attended preschool! Anna’s journey has been an inspiring one, from her first memories of waving to nurses and doctors as a preschooler here, to volunteering at a Covid-19 testing site that sparked her passion for hands-on patient care. Now, as she works in the Emergency Department alongside her mentor, Mary Forsyth, RN, she’s learning and preparing for her dream of becoming a family nurse practitioner. Sharing this experience with her mother, Andrea, a physical therapist at Martha's Vineyard Hospital for more than 30 years, makes this milestone even more special.

Congratulations to Denise Schepici, president of Martha's Vineyard Hospital, for being named to Becker's Healthcare's list of 90 critical access hospital CEOs to know. Under her leadership, our hospital has expanded to 38 clinical specialties, serving more than 1,200 new primary care patients.

We were honored this week with a special dedication from the U.S. Postal Service. Vineyard Haven Postmaster Emily Texeira unveiled a commemorative forever stamp celebrating the commitment of our healthcare workers to the island community. Katherine Smith, PT, DPT, Cert. DN, works with children and families at Martha's Vineyard Hospital to maximize safety and independence with gross motor development, age-appropriate play skills and functional mobility. We asked Katherine to describe her experience as a physical therapist. She has been with the hospital since September 2020, and we thank her for her dedication to the optimal health of our patients. #PhysicalTherapyMonth

Last month, Martha’s Vineyard Hospital participated in the Edgartown School Health Fair and open house. Our team had a great time engaging with students and families, and sharing important information about health, wellness and our community programs. “Events like this remind me how in touch and connected our hospital is to our community,” says Dave Caron, vice president of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services. “It’s a privilege to develop strong relationships with our patients in these forums; it demonstrates that being visible goes a long way in caring for our community.”

We’re excited to unveil a new collection of historic photographs on display in the corridor between our main lobby and cafeteria. This exhibit, entitled, “A Look into the Past: Photographs from the MV Museum Collection,” was created in partnership with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. Organized by Anna Barber, curator of exhibitions, and Nyoka Walters, the museum’s first exhibition fellow and a senior at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School, this collection captures the rich history of Martha's Vineyard.
