Up until just last year, our university didn’t really do much to observe Veterans Day…an astounding oversight, given the fact that we host the largest population of military-affiliated students (#BYFAR) in Tennessee and one of the largest in the nation. We now celebrate a full “Veterans Week” of activities starting next Monday at both our Clarksville campus and our Fort Campbell Center. Two of those events will be sponsored by BMW and I hope to see lots of Clarksville, Montgomery County, and Middle Tennessee friends, especially at our annual military appreciation football game on November 9th! Kudos to our Austin Peay State University Military and Veterans Affairs Division’s hard-charging Director of Recruitment, Communications, and Marketing, Marisa Roberts for taking a suggestion that we should do something on Veterans Day, sprinting with it, and turning it into an awesome Veterans Week! #GoldStandard

Many of us who transition from service overlook many of the skills we developed and mastered during our period of service. These skills may seem basic to us. However, our civilian counterparts will never have the expertise we have in the attention to detail and the scope of our responsibility. In this week's edition of The Legend, we discuss one skill that all service members develop in service. We highlight its applicability within multiple desired careers. This is only one skill, start thinking about more and how to apply it to your resume.
