In an effort to keep more families and pets together, Mutual Rescue has officially launched a nationwide Spanish Language Accessibility Project. ?? ?? WHAT IS IT? A resource hub of over 40 printable handouts on pet health, pet care, and basic pet behavior subjects (litter box issues, resource guarding, etc) in Spanish. They have been translated by a native speaker at an easy-to-understand level. No AI for us! ?? WHY THE NEED? Animal shelters want useful information for their Spanish speaking clients, but do not have the resources to do it, so Mutual Rescue did it for them. We hope this will make shelters more accessible for the entire community and help keep more pets in loving homes. WHERE TO FIND? On Mutual Rescue's website under PROGRAMS (link below), shelters can download the resources they need, add their own logo to the top of the documents, and share with the public instantly. The ladies shared tangible tools to help navigate an important, yet overlooked topic in shelter work — making animal services more welcoming for Latines. Our translator, Daniel Luna of Luna Languages, Guadalajara, MX, rocking a Bailing Out Benji shirt while working on the translations for Mutual Rescue's Language Accessibility Project. Over forty handouts on subjects like pet health, pet care, and common behavior issues will soon be available in Spanish for any shelter to download, put their own logos on, and use as needed for free. In the future we hope to expand into teaching videos for shelter workers on basic Spanish phrases and word recognition to better assist our Spanish speaking communities. If you have any suggestions for subjects for handouts, drop them in the comments below. Daniel is a native Spanish speaker and certified Spanish teacher who also speaks German, French and other languages. (And he doesn't actually drink beer, he just cares about animal welfare.)

As a National Shelter Engagement & Program Manager, Mutual Rescue’s Finnegan Dowling is always on the go. It’s rare when the team isn’t wondering, “Where in the World is Finn Dowling-San Diego*?” ?????? What we know for certain is that she’ll be presenting at Best Friends Animal Society National Conference in February. Finn will share tangible tools to help navigate a vital and overlooked topic in rescue work — making animal services more welcoming for Spanish-speaking residents. We’ll be documenting Finn’s journey throughout 2025 as she strives to make a positive impact with shelters and their cherished communities. Thanks to our summer partnership with ZYRTEC?, Mutual Rescue was able to grant $75,000 to select shelters nationwide. ?? ?? The "Pet Pawsitivity" campaign encouraged allergy sufferers to experience the mutual benefits of getting outdoors with a shelter dog through their local "Doggy Day Out" program. Six influencers?with a combined following of?2.1MM?across TikTok and Instagram created authentic and educational content to highlight the benefits of Doggy Day Out and how important this short-term foster program is for shelter pups.
