???? Exciting times at the University of California, Berkeley! This week, I had the privilege of hosting two esteemed diplomats from Uzbekistan, Mr. Farrux Abduvaxidov and Mr. Anvarkhodja Kadyrov,?from The Ministry of Digital Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business and the UC Berkeley College of Engineering. Our discussions centered on fostering connections and exploring potential collaborations with entrepreneurs eager to venture into Uzbekistan—a burgeoning haven for startups, especially in IT. We delved into Uzbekistan's dynamic policies designed to nurture business growth: ?? 0% tax for IT companies ?? A young, tech-savvy, and multilingual workforce of 36 million, 60% under 30 ?? A literacy rate of 99.99% ?? 125,000 annual graduates fueling innovation ?? A burgeoning $1bn IT market ?? Visa-free entry for citizens of 90+ countries ?? Enticing incentives like one year of free office rent and internet for relocated IT companies These initiatives represent just a fraction of what Uzbekistan offers as it fosters a welcoming environment for innovation at IT PARK Uzbekistan. Explore how you can expand your horizons and grow your business or startup idea! Learn more about the opportunities at: https://outsource.gov.uz/

What a wonderful week at Berkeley Haas! I'm still smiling from the nourishing Iftar dinner that our Muslims of Haas students organized and executed on Monday evening. It was the first Iftar for so many Haasies, and I was honored to be included in this celebration of warm, inclusive community and deep joy. Thank you, Luqman Elbakri and Misbah S. (as well as those who supported behind the scenes, especially Katrina Koski, MDR, Elida M. Bautista, PhD, Jamee Bullock, Elinor G. and Dr. Lauren Simon).
I thoroughly enjoyed participating in a special Iftar event on the first evening of Ramadan hosted by the Muslims of Haas student club at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. Congratulations to Luqman Elbakri and Misbah S. and their student leadership team for arranging a memorable evening featuring notable speakers including Haas alumni Afraz Khan, Kosar Jahani, & Nancy Hoque (pictured here with me and Professor Don Moore) as well as world renowed Islamic scholar, teacher and motivational speaker Shaykh Alauddin El-Bakri, Founder and Director of?@tawasawinstitute. Special thanks to all of the generous sponsors and supporters, including Haas superstars Assistant Dean Emma Hayes Daftary and Director of Inclusion & Belonging Katrina Koski, MDR. #berkeleyhaas #ramadan2024

As the month of Ramadan approaches, we at Haas are reminded of the values of reflection, resilience, and community it brings. This time offers us all, regardless of our backgrounds, a moment to reflect on our own journeys and the strength we find in unity. We look forward to supporting our colleagues and peers as they prepare for a month of fasting and reflection. ???? University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business
