? Today, we’re turning the page to a new chapter. For over 25 years, MSA West has been a home for Muslim students across the West Coast. During this time, we served generations of students through our programming and our resourcing of MSAs. With time it became clear the organization’s name did not fully reflect the holistic Muslim student experience and the constantly adapting landscape. Over the past 10 years, we asked students what they needed to thrive, and the ask for institutional growth was resounding and consistent. What has made this organization unique is that when we see the needs and priorities of students change, we adapt. The organization’s very founding came from the community constantly responding to growing changes. To better represent and support all Muslim college students on the West Coast, we have evolved to Manara West. Inspired by the minaret, a symbol of light and illumination, Manara West isn’t just a name; it’s the go-to platform for Muslim students, MSAs, and Muslim student organizations to lead, grow, and transform their communities and beyond. A new name, a renewed mission. While MSAs will always remain central to many students' experiences, we are seeing a growing ecosystem of Muslim student organizations, leadership pipelines, advocacy groups, and service initiatives—all working to meet the diverse needs of Muslim students across the West Coast. As this ecosystem evolves, so does our role. Inspired by the minaret, Manara means "beacon of light"—a symbol of guidance and connection. “I had the honor and opportunity to work with MSAs from all over the West Coast and be part of an amazing team of students and staff that came together to put on a conference that would leave students, from all over the West Coast, motivated and excited.” Mahlak, the 2024 MSA West Conference Chair, reflects on the powerful experiences and connections that shaped her journey.
