Have you seen the new marvelous glass gallery at the Muskegon Museum of Art? We are proud to have partnered with the MMA to bring new life to their space and save their staff much time! This connection also started thanks to the?Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce?and its Muskegon In Focus Program, where I met?Ruby Chaise, who has made me a huge MMA fan! Big thanks to all involved.

Ekphrastic poetry is poetry about art. If you're a Michigan writer, we invite you to write an original ekphrastic poem for our annual Art Talks Back contest. Poems should be based on one of five pre-selected works in the Muskegon Museum of Art's permanent collection. It is free to enter and open to all Michigan residents ages 18+. High school students in Muskegon County are also eligible to submit work. Thank you to all who celebrated the opening of the new Bennett Schmidt Pavilion with us last week! Over 2,500 visitors walked through our gallery doors in less than a week. Wow... just WOW! We are overwhelmed by the energy and support surrounding this exciting new era for the MMA. We can no longer say we are a small art museum or a hidden gem of Muskegon, but we can proudly say that it is because of the support from our AMAZING community that we could grow into what we are today - a nationally recognized destination art museum.

Another behind the scenes peek for everyone! It’s unboxing day for The Bennett Collection! The Bennett Collection is a collection of figurative realist works by women artists. The collection includes significant works by both historic and contemporary artists, such as Artemisia Gentileschi, Mary Cassatt, Peggy Bacon, Andrea Kowch, Katie O’Hagan, and many more. A selection of works will be premiering with the opening of the new Bennett Schmidt Pavilion next week! Want to learn more about The Bennett Collection? Join us tomorrow night (Thursday, January 30) at 6 PM for a special talk on what The Bennett Collection is and why it’s such an exciting new addition to the MMA.

Behind the scenes of reinstalling the MMA Collection Fun Fact: All of the galleries in the historic wing of the MMA are getting a facelift with a new coat of paint AND will be entirely dedicated to displaying artwork from the MMA’s Collection. With over 5,500 works of art, we have only been able to properly display 3% of our collection at any given time. It would take over 40 years to properly display all of the work. With the new Bennett Schmidt Pavilion opening soon, we will be able to dedicate the entire historical side of the museum to displaying the collection, while the new galleries will be dedicated to rotating exhibitions.
