As Easter approaches, millions of Christians reflect on the Stations of the Cross, a centuries-old tradition that walks through Christ’s passion and sacrifice. This practice began in the 5th century, allowing those unable to visit Jerusalem’s Via Dolorosa to experience its sacred journey in their own communities. ?? Understanding the Origins of Lent and Ash Wednesday ?? As we observe the Lenten season, it's insightful to reflect on its historical and biblical foundations. Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and penance leading up to Easter, was formalized during the Council of Nicaea in AD 325. This duration mirrors significant biblical events, such as: ??? Noah's 40 days of rain (Genesis 7:4) ?? Moses' 40 days on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24:18) ?? Jesus' 40 days of fasting in the desert (Matthew 4:1–11) The tradition of Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, was established by Pope Gregory in AD 601. He introduced the practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of the faithful, symbolizing repentance and mortality—a gesture rooted in ancient customs. Understanding these traditions enriches our appreciation of this solemn season. How do you observe Lent in your community? Share your practices and reflections below. ?? https://lnkd.in/e9ndVr_v #Lent #AshWednesday #FaithTraditions #HistoricalInsights
