To create ?????????? ??????????'s richly textured surface, Mely Barragán slowly accreted layers of paint, lace, and fabric. The resulting abstract composition evinces the accretive process and draws focus to its black-lacquered lace and fabric. Though its palette is uncharacteristic for an artist who typically works with bright florals, this work relies on Barragan's signature practice of collage, a technique steeped in traditions of feminist and consumerist critique. Completed while the artist was recovering from a series of medical procedures, ?????????? ?????????? makes allusions to the body – both its inner workings and its outward, hand-crafted labor.
